I just thought I would mention that by early deadline (2PM) Tami means on Thursday, instead of 6PM on Thursday. Other games we have played have "just before air-time" deadlines, which allows everyone to wait for snewser's spoiler, which is typically the most accurate. If you play this game, you will guess before snewser reveals his "guess." :)

This should even out the playing field and alleviate a lot of the "do you spoil" or "not spoil" criticism from last seasons game.

For the past two seasons we've played some sort of "Survivor Pickem" game. [gloat] I won both, and JohnJr is insanely jealous. [/gloat]

Well, now you wait for Snewser to open up voting for episode 1. I imagine he'll open it up over the weekend... looks like he has a lot of work yet to do - everyone still has their scores from last season.

I was close in ranking, but not in points. I think I forgot to vote twice last season.

This season, if I go cold turkey on the spoilers, I doubt I'll have a prayer.

The season before last I was in the top 5, but I used spoiler sites. Last time I winged my own poor guesses and forgot to vote one week. Bad Jedi! I'll try to do better this time. I am not sure where I even ranked on the last one. 20th? Tami is upbeatable and even got some TiVo prizes on one of the seasons (last season too?). Is the TiVoPony guy still around? We gettin' him involved too?

Playing as a team to squash some other team sounds like fun. We have some hard-hitting brilliant Survivor experts on this forum.

Awww shucks, you're making me blush.... The prizes were way cool (thanks TivoPony!) - I just got them for the first season - I was going to not compete this time around, but didn't want to disappoint you guys... Although the Scurvy was the only one I wanted to compete in - it's supposed to be pretty tough, because you really can't use spoiler sites.

The teams average the score of all the players - team with highest average wins. They have prizes - $100 Amazon GC, or $250 to a charity of your choice. To win, everyone has to play every week (hint, hint).

But, I just want us to have fun - and so far I have - I think we've all gotten to know each other better over the last year or so of playing these games and watching Survivor together... All us reality junkies got to stick together :D

BTW, with 21 members it looks like we are tied for 2nd place for the largest team. All it would take is 4 more members to tie for first and 5 more to have the largest team :)

We have TiVo's and can get nit-picky with interpretting social relations between the tribe members and maybe better predict future results because of our TiVo advantages. We can fast forward, rewind and pause and pick up things the average viewer may miss to help us better predict the following week's outcome. Team TiVo's gonna win! :)

I guess I should warn some of you that the questions are "spoilers" in themselves. If you don't want to know anything about the game before it airs, you shouldn't play.

However, sometimes the questions asked have nothing to do with what happens in the episode (there is usually an answer that is "this doesn't happen" or "neither tribe")

I voted earlier - My voting strategy was "close your eyes and choose" - It's really hard to tell at this point.

Actually, I did some fairly wild guessing (esp on who had no underwear), but some educated guesses on some others based on previews.

my strategy (though I have to go back through the bios to perfect this): assume that those who claim to have leadership skills are early targets. Similarly, try to peg those who seem the most easygoing as people who are not likely to leave or receive votes the first week. Those fade into the background folks.

As I write this, we are team # 2 with 35 members. Still 5 off the lead. There are 2 teams with 24 members behind us, vying for third....

Don't forget to vote! Voting closes Thursday at 11:00 am PST.

There are still 8 that have not voted. And there is still time to join if anyone hasn't done that yet...

We need to decide what we want to do with "non voters" - people who sign up and don't vote. If we are trying to do this as a team - non voters will bring down our average. As the team creator I can "kick" players. Kicked players past votes (or non votes) still count in your team average - but future non votes (or votes) will not. They can always rejoin the team at a later date.

Here are our options as I see them:

1) Kick players who have not voted by 10:55 am PST on the day of the game?

2) Kick players who miss one week

3) Kick players who miss two weeks in a row (or more weeks in a row)

4) Never kick players

That's a toughy... I guess my vote would be kick them by 10:55AM. If they haven't voted by then, my guess is they never will. They did have all week...

Ok, I just pm'd everyone who has not voted yet - there were just a few, but there has got to be a better way...

I cut and pasted the same message, and just changed the member name - and it didn't take long, and it would say I can't send the message because of the 60 second thing...

Can you send the same PM to a list of people? Could I have just put all the names in the TO: field seperated by commas?

(You can tell I don't PM much :D )

Well, the way I read the questions, you would need to go to the spoiler sites in order to get the answers. It's not just a straight "which team will win immunity?", "who will the reward challenge?" and "who will get booted?". I guessed at everything.

I voted (after pausing a whole lot of commercials), and then went to spoiler sites...

One question was "Who carries the torch for the Morgan team?" I searched the spoiler sites for that one - and all I could find was who carried the torch for the Drake team - so spoiler sites were no help - and I think that will be the case for a lot of the questions.

I did find out who carried the torch - but only last night while watching the ET preview. I didn't go back and change my vote - afraid to loose my early bird bonus.

Well, I did remove 2 that had not voted... But they are welcomed to join back in at any time.

I'm not going to get to watch Survivor until it's over... For some reason I have Girl Scout meetings on Survivor night - which is the whole reason I got a TiVo in the first place. But as soon as I get home tonight, I'm sitting down and watching Survivor...

Now this is a reason to cancel a Girl Scouts meeting. (just kidding of course ;))



I usually count on a 20 minute buffer for one hour shows, so I think that a 30 min. buffer would be appropriate for this. Then again maybe they'll be super nice to us and be light on the commercials. or maybe not.

I'm watching live. Big and stringy and lacking willpower! :D

It's about to start pouring down rain here, and the thunder is really bad - and all my parents are calling asking if we are canceling the meeting (we canceled last week because of rain, but it has rained all day long last week, and was flooding - today it hasn't rained here at all until now, so no flooding). I was very tempted to just cancel the meeting and stay home and watch Survivor... But we have yet to have a meeting this year, and school's been in session for 6 weeks and we have camp out out in two weeks.

BTW, I would figure that all you 'non-spoilers' would be prepared to bet at opening bell. Right? ;) When is the opening bell for the Scurvy Dog voting, does anyone know? What is the earliest possible time to vote?

It would make sense to me that non-spoilers should take advantage of the fact that they are pretty much prepared to vote immediately after the previous weeks episode. That would maximize your bonus potential at 20%.

EDIT: It looks like if you vote 96 hours = 4 days in front of Thursday, so, like Sunday at 6PM, you will lock in a maximum of 20% bonus. Then it goes down from there. So it looks like Sunday is the good day to put your bets in, if you are fairly sure about what is going to happen.

Well, we did better this week than last... But I also got busy today and didn't take out the ones that didn't vote. I was watching the clock - waiting for 10:55 PST - and I still had about 30 minutes - then got caught up doing some eBay stuff - and before I knew it, it was 20 minutes after...

Although, since they lost the Head of the spear, rather than the entire spear, I think that my "none of the above" was the correct answer on that one...

I was surprised that they didn't start thinking of alternatives to the spear. With that many fish out there, they could catch them with home-made gear I'd think. They could probably come up with a make-shift net and get the whole day's worth of food in one hour.

Well I seemed to make up a bit for last week. The thing that bugs me is that I didn't pick the spear because I thought the previews were too obvious. I wish Scurvy Dog ranked people in order of their score so you can see how you are doing. It's pretty dumb to have them ranked by the order you joined...

Managed to get 90th for ep 2 even with not picking Osten. That and I shaved 263 off my total positiion (went from 850 overall to 587). Tarp answer gave a 3.6 bonus for picking it...

Morgan has mosquito netting I'd steal next time....

I'm not sure if taking the tarp was the best idea. Tearing their whole shelter basically to the ground isn't going to make Morgan too happy. Drake had better be prepared to lose something MAJOR the first time Morgan wins a reward challenge.

As upset as they got about losing the spear this time, when there was a chance of finding it, can you imagine their reaction when they have to watch it being carried away on a boat?

I wonder if there's a rule about hiding or burying items that you don't want to lose?

(Of course, they could always disassemble the spear before Morgan comes, so that it's two "items" - the pole and the spearhead. Taking just one of those would not be very helpful to Morgan, and they'd hopefully pass it up...)

One of the spoiler sites lists all Morgan tribe members as Safe, and only half of the Drake members as Safe. ;) Tami, who do you think is going? Rupert???? I went with Jon also.... I was really torn, but I think Sandra had more weight loss. Of course, with the Big Twist we keep reading about, being voted off right now doesn't mean much.

I'm thinking Morgan wins this weeks IC from looking at vidcaps - in one you see a down looking Morgan tribe - dressed the way they were in the RC - so they lost the RC - also you do not see the immunity idol or a reward/treasure map with them. Then in another vidcap, you see a down looking Drake tribe - we have not seen many vidcaps of the IC - they too have no immunity idol - so I think Morgan won the Immunity Challenge... As for who goes... well, it could be any body... I'm guessing Shawn. I may be wrong, and I may be at the bottom of the rankings next week. My reasoning is in the other All spoilers thread.

I think I prefer the "who wins the challenges, who gets voted out, who gets no votes questions, rather than detail questions about the plot that we have no way of knowing about except from spoiler sites.

There's also a vidcap of Osten falling out of the boat, and he's commented several times that he's not comfortable with water. Could this week's IC be where the near drowning occurs?

I was having a hard time reconciling that with the info that this week's boot should be a male, until I read a post pointing out that from a distance, it wouldn't be too hard to make that mistake with Lill. :)

I just know that when Drake won immunity I had that proverbial "deer in the headlights" look. I didn't think there was any WAY that Morgan would lose three. And once that happened, it was OBVIOUS who was going. Now it starts to make the often-spoiled "big twist" and final few sound true.

I actually got the full 20%, but if my picks suck then that ain't worth much. :) I wish the bonus decreased linearly... after 50% of the time has gone by, I can still get 16% extra. Well, if there is some switching going on, Drake would probably boot out a new person first, no matter how annoying Jon is.

But, with how uneven the tribes are, they are probably just going to let Morgan choose a member for their side - otherwise, if they loose another challenge, Drake will not be able to manage to not sit someone out in back to back challenges after this week.

After the reward challenge during last week's episode, my husband asked "I wonder if you could steal a member of the opposing tribe instead of an item. All they said was that you could steal something from their camp" and I think that's exactly what will happen after this week's immunity challenge.

I have to say that this Survivor is probably my favorite one aside from Season 2, and that was only because of Colby :) It's even got my husband who had absolutely no interest in the show interested.

But it must be that the winner of IC gets "an extra reward". If M wins, they get to choose someone from D. If D wins, they would get something else, since they can't have more than 8 (don't know that for sure, but I thought they said that in an earlier version of Survivor).

And wow: if Morgan gets to win IC and steal a player, guess what? Both teams will have 6 players next week. ;)

Damn Mark Burnett to hell. :) In the first 5 minutes of the episode you know who will get voted off. But it's nothing we've seen in the past. I was sure it was between Jon and Christa, since those are the only personalities we've seen. Now here comes Burton fast on the outside, streaking towards the finish line. Oh well.. at least I got points for saying Christa would get the 2nd most votes. ;)

Otherwise the episode played out just like I expected.... Drake RC, Drake finds chest, Morgan IC, Morgan steals Rupert. That should be interesting next week, since Rupert seems to be as loyal as "mercenaries" get. :)

I think I pretty much just randomly choose answers this week...

Hey, hey, everybody vote?

Their choice of questions frequently makes it smartest to play the odds. For example, in all the "yes/no" questions about all of the contestants, unless you are really sure about an answer, it makes sense to answer "no" to all of them. That way, you are at worst, wrong about just one of them. If you guess, and answer "yes" to one, and "no" to the rest, you might be right, but if you are wrong, that's 10 points lost, rather than 5. So with those two sets of the same sort of questions, I'm for sure going to lose 10 points. But if I guessed, I'd have a slim chance of getting all 80 points, but a pretty high chance of getting only 60.

So what's the current theory on this "twist?" My guess is that the last person from the original tribes to escape will be leaving, and one of the "ghost tribe" will be staying. Then they'll merge and still need to vote someone off.

I've decided that instead of trying to win, I will try to see how terribly bad I can do while still answering all the questions - so far I'm doing really well in my plan :D

I don't have a clue what is going to happen - but there will be two coming back, and probably three leaving... I'm thinking that maybe Osten just quits instead of being voted off (big regret - which is definitely this week).

Sorry for the delay in a response. I haven't checked back in this thread since I posted the results.

I have to do our team ranking manually. I just copy all of the data from the team screen into Excel, sort by overall rank, and then add a column with the team rank. I'm anal and do a final check too to ensure that no one's scores are equal (which would therefore be a tie).

This is the second time that I've disagreed with the way that the answers are getting talied in this challenge game. Everyone in Morgan did vote for Osten. Questions 20 and 21 should have been answered "More than one because of multiple TC's" in my opinion, not just the players from the Drake team.

Well, technically he was not voted off - Jeff specifically said "no need for a vote".

I was peeved that we didn't get credit for saying who was coming back - but of course, the way the question is worded, no one has come back in the game yet - so I can see the logic.

They did explain the "correct answers", so I don't feel too bad. Their interpretations might not be exactly like mine, but they seemed valid.

It's always best to put SOMETHING in on Sunday or Monday, then change it later if you get better info. That way you don't miss the deadline and get a big fat ZERO.

The questions are again not well-posed, and the value doesn't seem to match the importance to the game.

The questions about who will get voted back in and where will they go are the worst. Suppose your second person is voted back in, but isn't the second alphabetically (ie, you pick burton and lillian, but it is really lillian and michelle) Then you might be right about where lillian goes, but you've put that answer in the wrong place. Also, you might be right on the general premise that the drake person goes to drake, and morgan person goes to morgan, but because you've got them in the wrong order, those answers again are wrong.

Just to measure how wacked the questions have been, I've never performed well in these survivor voting games, and I'm only slightly below average including no vote for the first week.

I'm too hung up on this game... I tried to vote yesterday, but got caught up on the questions... I started hunting down vid caps to see who went to what tribe (I think it would make most sense to go to the OTHER tribe for better integration), but the I got caught up in the merge... Spoilers have it that there is no merge, but there is convincing argument that they merge at the water challenge...

Ok, guys, just tell me how you voted, and I'll vote the same and save myself some trouble :D Or maybe I should go with my original strategy and see how badly I can answer and get the least amount of points - I'm not in the bottom yet, but I could be if I tried just a little harder....

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

I was shocked when I went to the spoiler sites this AM, and am sad to see the bootee go, if indeed it is he/she. Probably my favorite contestant right now. Grrr.

I'm betting no merge, but honestly my instinct says merge. The "Wedding" spoiler is the one that gets me. How can "one tribe" have a wedding? Wedding would make sense if it was just a general wedding.... IE. Merge. But the thing specifically says "one tribe" has a wedding. I dunno what is up with that.

Seems pretty clear to me who comes back and where they end up. How they are elected, your guess is as good as mine.

I did pretty good this week... It helped to buck the spoiler of no merge this week. There was a lot of evidence of a merge, wonder where the info came that it would be delayed to next week came from?

I'm number 19 for this episode - Kemyst is #8! WooHooo!

I haven't seen the episode yet - can someone tell me what the "wedding" was all about - and why Scurvy Dog counted it as "bogus".
