How 'bout this:

My Yahoo! TV listings -> click on a show in the grid -> view description... click on "Record on your TiVo" button.

(a record button by every listing would be too busy, visually, so only bring it up when viewing the description of the show)

My Yahoo! already knows who I am and shows me the grid for prime time TV on my local cable system. Doesn't seem like it would be too much of a stretch for Yahoo! to know the ID of my TiVo and hand off a scheduling request.

Side effects: (some) TCO functionality on faster servers, potential for free/cheap TiVo advertising in the Yahoo grids "Record on your TiVo... don't have TiVo? click here."
