The site needs FAQ

I know there are sticky's at the top of the forums, but we really need FAQs to answer many of the common questions. Like most, I have found this site to be enormously helpful and addicting. However, the repitition of questions is silly. How many different people can ask about multiswitches or Tivo monthly versus lifetime or Which one is right for me?

Can these be setup as links at the top of the forum? For examples, see the links below:

Regardless of an FAQ or not, people will stall asking the question. ;)

We have FAQ's that are run by members. Like http://www.tivofaq.com But it has not been updated. This often happens when people to things as a hobby.

Hey, it's not like we're getting paid to write FAQs. :)

Those of us who take the time to create resources for new users do it as a labor of love, with an emphasis on labor. I can attest that my own, the Cable/Satellite Box Compatability & Codes List, has probably taken ~50 hours of my volunteered time so far, made harder because it is largely the result of my own research since I've been unable to get more than a limited number of contributions from other forum members. ILoveMyTiVo, who maintains tivofaq.com, has mentioned a similar inability to get contributions for updating that FAQ. I really admire Gary Sargent, whose TiVoPortal.co.uk must have taken an enormous amount of time to put together.

Back to the main point, David and the moderators have been very good at keeping this forum tasteful and minimizing the intrusiveness of ads and various optional features. FAQs could be made more obvious, but only at the expense of also making them more intrusive.

I just created a new thread entitled Before you ask—please check these top answers for TiVo questions! over in the TiVo Help Center forum which gathers together links to some of the more useful thread/posts/sites for TiVo information (including the old FAQ). This is not an attempt at a replacement FAQ. Rather, it's just an attempt to let people know about some of the more useful places to look for TiVo information, both generally and for some specific common issues.

ccwf, your Help Center forum post is wonderful.

If folks want to take things from our support pages (which are updated frequently by people who ARE paid to update FAQs :) ), we can work something out. And Pony, Bill and I can act as a liaisons for getting folks information that is needed.

I thought it would be interesting to track what threads people actually view in the Help Center. So, below are the top 200 most viewed threads for the ten day span from Fri Feb 14 02:05 to Mon Feb 24 02:29 GMT. New threads (ones created during this span) have read counts in red.

I can see from these results that I should add items about the window button and maybe leaving the TiVo always on to the top answers post.
