CBS has given the green light to begin casting for The Amazing Race 5. That is a good sign and is great news.

If they are just now casting, it's definitely going to be next summer before it airs.

Any idea how to try and get on the show?

Here you go: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race5/

but I better get on too ;)

Posted by: brott

Glad to hear that it is back .. Definitely one of my favorite shows.

Posted by: Animgif

Awesome...I'm filling it all out, etc, this weekend...

Posted by: cello

I'm so tempted... but I really don't want to be on TV, so I'm not filling it out.

I would jump at the chance to do TAR or Survivor, if it weren't for the televised aspect. I just want the experience, and to test myself in competition. I guess it will never happen. :(

Not only do you get to be on TV, but you get to have one aspect of yourself (perhaps a fault) played up all the time (are you gay? do you fight a lot? can you be a b!tch?). Then after you "lose," you'll have to appear on a myriad of other CBS talk shows and talk about "what a great time" you had and "what a great partner" you had. Oh, and I almost forgot all the love you'll get on the bulletin boards. :)

Don't get me wrong - I love TAR, and this is great news. But I can see how you wouldn't want to be on TV. Neither would I.

I'll root for you Animgif!

For those wondering about timing: The paperwork said be willing to race for 30 to 40 days starting in Jan 2004.

If you read the timeline from the application, it looks like the race will be 30-40 days in Jan/Feb 2004. It will most likely start during May Sweeps.

Yeah, as I imagined what my answers would be to the questions on the app I downloaded, I tried to think of what they would peg me as and what points they would emphasize about me. The closest I can think of is that me and the partner who I'd choose would be pegged as the nerds. I'm pretty easy-going and non-confrontational, so it would take a lot of twisting to make me the bitch. I might be one of those players who gets little air time, like the goats. I think they could try to peg me as the whiny one if they selectively cut what words of mine they aired. Though I think they could do that for just about anybody. I'm no Flo and never will be close, though. I think that myself and my dream partner would kick some major butt. I'm small but when I'm in top physical shape (getting there again, and would definitely be there if on the show) I'm deceptively strong. I get along with people, and treat people like airline agents and cab drivers with respect and a big smile by instinct. I would so rock the show, as would my partner! Stupid tv cameras... :)

Maybe 2 people from this board should sign up together. There has never been a team of "internet friends" and I'm sure they look for interesting relationships. :) I'm really happy to hear that the show will be returning for another season!

Posted by: cello

ooooh... .brilliant!

even better if they don't meet in person until they race starts.

Posted by: Dromomaniac

cello, you've got me pegged to a T. Looking for a race partner on the Canadian version (which I assume nobody would watch...)? :)

That was the plan for TAR 4 but we all know how that turned out. So who knows...

I can just see it... if two of us got on there, down where it says "Married" or "Best Friends" at the bottom of the screen would be:

TiVo Whores

:)

Posted by: cello

(if they got TiVo to sponser the show, it would be great advertising!)

Posted by: IJustLikeTivo

Yippee. I was really worried. Glad to see that at least one person at CBS has a brain.

BTW, TiVo Whores does have a nice ring!

Well, I'd be happy to take trains through various foreign countries, but I'm not too eager to do any bungee jumping, skydiving, or rooting around through manure.

Besides, I don't think I can take that much time off work. (I wonder how some of the TAR contestants arrange it, such as the air traffic controllers from this past race.)

They need to include another team of brothers for this show. I hereby nominate myself and one brother soon to be named (advantage of having 4 of them) to CBS.
This show is the best reality TV show on. Too bad they probably wouldn't let me bring along a Tivo doll.

I'm not normally a TV Guide reader, but I do buy the fall preview issue every year. I read the Cheers and Jeers, and they gave CBS a Jeers for the way they have treated this show. While they have hyped Survivor and even to a lesser extent Big Brother, most of us didn't even know that TAR was going to be on this past summer until about a week before the first episode aired. CBS has treated this show as the ugly stepchild of Reality TV while this show probably has the most integrity of all of them combined.
