Dead Like Me (9/12/03) - Spoilers

Sorry if I missed another thread on this, couldn't find one.
This episode was a little different than usual, though enjoyable. At first I was worried that it was going to be a glorified clip show but they recovered from that quick enough. It had some deeper meaning and less sentiment.
Not being deep of thought there were things I did not understand
1) Who were the couple in the diner, it kept showing them, they looked like the people in the painting but there was never a payoff
2) What was the point of Daisy being in the painting ?
I enjoyed the British guys, F%#@ this, F#@# that rant.

Did no one watch this or is there just nothing to say.

I am not sure that there is a lot to say about this episode. I watched it, and although it wasn't all clip-show, I think it suffered from too much of that. I have seen every episode, I don't need to be reminded of what I have seen.
As for your questions, I am not really sure. The couple in the diner definitely resembled the couple in the painting, but I can't find any further meaning in it... maybe someone else can figure it out for us ;) The picture of the woman resembling Daisy is, I think, just that - it resembles her. I do not think it is meant to be her, but just to show that she relates to the person in the painting, that she isn't as happy with her life (before her afterlife) as she wishes she could have been. I think it was just there to show us that there is more to her than the slut that only thinks of herself that we have seen. What more she is, I am not sure, but hopefully they will further develop her character. As of now, I don't like daisy all that much myself.

While I know it is easier for budget reasons, I still wish shows would use different takes, film alternate camera angles, or use new clips entirely if they want to have flashbacks within a show.

How can 'new clips entirely' be a flashback? Aren't flashbacks from a previous episode? I guess it could be a flashback from earlier in their life/death before the show began..Hmmm

Well they already show us flashbacks from before the show began. Even within the context of reminding us of things we've already seen, it would be nice to have them toss some changes in the mix. For instance shooting the sister sitting in the backseat of the car, while replaying the dialog from the "Maybe we should just split up" scene.
It was an odd show. A clip show with a lot more wraparound than is normal, just before the end of the season too.
I also was not under the impression that it was really a painting of Daisy. Where the couple was concerned, I thought it was just for the look.

I hate Flashback Episodes, but for some reason, I liked this show.
I'm not sure who speculated this, but I am now officially in agreement that Daisy is not an actress from the 30s.

That was me--and oddly enough, for some reason, after this episode I'm wavering a little in my conviction. But I'll stick with the theory for now...

She may have been an actress from the 30's but something tells me it wasn't all peaches and BJ's as she claims it to be.
In this, and the last two episodes she seems to be metamorphing into this wounded child who hasn't quite dealt with her own death.
I do feel that this past episode, while technically a clip show, was a serious turning point for George. She has finally come to accept the way things are and is ready to move on.
What this show lacked, however, was more Delores Herbig.

I thought this was another great episode. In the beginning I also was afraid it was going to be a boring flashback episode, but I think they did a great job of integrating the flashbacks into a storyline. I think part of the purpose of the show was to delve into (or remind us or those who haven't watched the show) the character's personalities.

I totally agree on this one. I'm beginning to think that she was a failed actress, and the only thing she managed to do in the acting world was give BJ's. I think the picture that resembled Daisy was there to sort of bring our attention to the fact that she's not as happy go lucky as she appears to be.

Just because they are showing back when say... George died. They don't HAVE to show the exact same footage for it to be a flashback. They could use a different angle, etc. As far as a new clip entirely, it would be hard to make a 8 sec montage of all the slutty things Daisy has said or done without using what the show has already shown. They could easily have shown her say how she blew 6 other unknown fellas with new dialogue.

You'd have to have just a huge heaping' pile of money to justify spending it on re-shooting a scene for which you already have a perfectly good shot, when you could spend the money on shooting a completely new scene...

If they shot new footage or even edited different angles, it wouldn't be the "economy chapter".

I watched this episode last Saturday, so I may be mistaken, but wasn't the very last shot of the show a shot of the diner 'designed' to look like the painting? That would explain the presence of the couple.

I was expecting that but I don't think it was really. The layout of the diner was totally different. You could be right though.
