blank screen when testing new drive

I have a Series 2, 80hr WD800, and am trying to add a WD120GB drive as asecond. I've been following Hinsdale's instructions but, I'm not sure if I missed a step or not.

got thru step 7 with the following sequence of commands: (the drives are hooked up per the instructions)

mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
mfsbackup -f 9999 -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc [the tivo.bak is on the PC's C:drive]
mfsrestore -s 127 -bzpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdb (the new drive)
umount -f -a -r

when I took the new drive out of the PC and put it back in my Tivo, I got a black screen (and, an exasperated sound from my wife who was watching my antics)

do I need to use that dd command since I'm not replacing the old A drive?

I took the precautions mentioned regarding the white ribbon cable and didn't touch it.

am I missing something?

thanks,

don

I think I answered my own question - it was operator error. When I cracked the case, I disconnected all the cables. In the process of putting the new, bigger drive in, in a fit of "brilliance," I plugged the video cables into the "in" side rather than the "out." The old drive still works and it's retained the shows we've recorded. now, I'm off to double check the new drive.

hope this provided some degree of amusement this early in the morning!

thanks - this is a great forum. if I get this right, I'll have an 80/120GB configuration.

where can I find directions on how to mount the new drive. I got the kit but no instructions and, as you can see from the above drivel, I need all the help I can get.

thanks,

Thanks for the help on the installation procedures - the second drive is safely installed. Tivo's showing a total of 225 hours now. The Hinsdale instructions were great. If it hadn't of been for a really stupid mistake on my part, the upgrade would have been completed in ~ 2 hours.

thanks again.
