Phillips 7000 upgrade?

I know that the Phillips 7000 is supposed to be the same as the HDVr2. I have a backup of the hdvr2 can I just use that to format a drive, and just drop it in the 7000?

That would probably make you a Moron. Why don't you just backup the current drive?

Since I already have a backup from my hdvr2, I thought I'd save a possibly needless step. But, I wouldn't want to be considered a Moron for asking what is a simple question about compatability.

Not a moron, a Moron (a Type II Moron, infact). It describes someone who loads the wrong software on his TiVo, not someone who asks dumb questions.

Not that I disagree, but I would advise linking the "M" word whenever using it (as you did in your follow-up post) for those who haven't been around here for very long...

I'm sorry I didn't recognize the forum term.
However, even in link above the term is used to switch between a phillips and a sony, not a Phillips and a Hughes, which have been described in this forum as the same unit with different case covers.
But i'll take your advice and backup the Phillips unit too just to be sure.

packfan; you shouldn't be apologizing.
the actually, many TiVo units are the same underneath; i won't elaborate on the similarities and differences among them, however the Philips and Hughes Series2 units are almost identical as you originally thought. still not a good idea to move software between them (it will work) because the units DO have different model numbers, and TiVo's servers will get confused when you make your daily call.
so its good that you don't plan on mixing and matching. and its good that you posted before doing it, too.
