Watching the Emmy's?

Anyone watching the Emmys? They have Gary Shandling hosting and he was just bombing in his opening monologue. This is the best they could do?
Posted by: JimSpence
Not here. It's just a love fest for Hollywood!
I'll read about who won tomorrow.

I'm tired of the politically correct West Wing winning so many awards that others shows deserve more...such as the best director award that the season finale of Soprano's certainly deserved.

No. They ignored The Wire, I am ignoring them.

No, but if you are- Enjoy!

No I can't watch anymore - I'll just read who won later or tomorrow.
What is everyone else watching?

It's much easier to watch if you don't stare directly at it. Just look off to the side.
Garry stank. Jon Stewart's bit was good. I'm already bored, but I am paying the most attention to these boards and Mr. J is packing for a business trip so it stays on. We'll turn it off in a bit I'm sure.

Jon Stewart is pretty funny, but the whole Arnold bit was just terrible. Conans bit was ok, not too bad.

I thought Conan was pretty funny.

Forgot it was on, just turned it on. Realized that I can't stand this level of kitsch cheesyness for television. Can barely stand it for the Oscars. I really couldn't care less who wins what, as long as they keep the shows I like on TV. Especially since tivo lets me ignore what annoys and doesn't interest me.
Off to watch something from my now-playing list. :D

The Amazing Race winning made it worth watching the Emmys.

I'm a total sucker for all those awards shows. I've been watching E! all day and then the actual show.
I love Shandling, thought he wasn't that bad. He looked nervous and uncomfortable but that's his bit.
Wanda Sikes was unbelievably annoying.
PS Tony Shaloub just won for Monk! :) He deserved it. Season 2 (not what he got nominated for) had me laughing more often than many sitcoms.

aaw, I should have watched the E! channel stuff. The parts of awards shows I like best is all the red carpet stuff. I like to keep stats on how many women look like they're taped and stapled into their gowns. ;)

Actually the show was "hosted" by many comedians:
Ellen DeGeneres, Brad Garrett, Darrell Hammond, George Lopez, Conan O'Brien, Garry Shandling, Martin Short, Jon Stewart and Wanda Sykes.

As bad as SOME of the Emmy broadcasts have been in the past, I have to say this one was simply painful to watch...

Hey, at least the "Left Wing" dominated.
That idiot Sheen already thinks he's the real president. If they win any more awards, he might actually run in 2008. :D

UGH. The West Wing is, on every level, a GREAT show. The dialogue is impeccable, the direction is almost always great and the story-lines are just about always interesting (unlike the Sopranos sometimes...and I LOVE the Sopranos) Don't discount its achievements based on personally held political ideals that have nothing to do with the quality of the show.
The overall quality of the show is not to be confused with the real world confusion and misguided (according to some) political aspirations of some of the cast (Sheen in particular)

The show was pretty good, most of the people that always win, won again.
The host thing was odd but funny, maybe better writers could help this. The best was Wanda in the audience, nothing like nervous famous people. She probably should have stuck too comedians, here with Wayne Brady would have been really funny.

Did anyone notice that Simon Cowell pinched Paula Abdul's butt when they were walking out to present the awards??? I bet he didn't realize the camera was behind him.

Yeah I realized that afterwards. Jon Stewart was probably the best from what I watched. I didn't see the entire show.

I'm about as far away politically from The West Wing as you can get, but I really love the show.. I was glad to see it win best drama. I like the Sopranos as well, so I was happy to see it get major acting awards.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I was busting up, because I sing in a men's chorus with a bunch of practical jokers and we do stuff like that to each other all the time while we are on stage. It's funny (in a purely immature, sophmoric, prankster kind of way) because you can't react to it if you are on stage.
I am SURE Simon thought he was going to get away with it.
B U S T E D D ! ! ! :D

I believe it is a high quality show. Although, I've only watched a few episodes I accept the general consensus that it is a good show. I also, believe the general consensus that this past season was very disappointing. I just find it hard to believe that it was better than both Sopranos or 24.
Posted by: ClutchBrake
Sorry, but The Sopranos was by and large a huge disappointment last season. Especially given the time they had to come up with scripts.
Posted by: cello
I also feel that 24 was not as good as the first season.
For me, WW is kind of like Buffy... even in an off season, it's among the best stuff out there.
I'm probably also one of the only people who, if in the entertainment profession, would really mean it if she said "it's an honor just to be nominated." When it comes to shows like TAR, sure a win can mean something for the life of the show. But for well established and popular shows like WW, 24, etc., an emmy probably isn't nearly as important.

It was. It really was. As unbelievable as it is, I swear it was.
Posted by: njtaz
Better than the sopranos yes, but better than 24 I don't think so even though they are both really good. The end of last season on The West Wing was really good leading up to this years opener. Definitely a lot of suspense.
Can't wait until Thursday for the season premiere.

Apparenty alot of people didn't like the Emmy's this year as the ratings were way down from last year. Link to story here
