Tony Shalhoub Wins!

I was so surprised when Tony Shalhoub won the Emmy for best comedy actor. I thought Ray Romano had a lock on this category, and it was probably one of those cases where the nomination was the award for Tony Shalhoub. So what a shock when he won! I'm glad he got it. It's a unique performance, and he took a chance on doing the character and this show since it's not the typical tv fare and not the typical leading man role. Well done, Tony Shalhoub.

I'm glad, but I disagreed about it being nominated as a "comedy" role.

Yes, but it fits there better than drama for my money. Not something you can really lock down. They get to choose the category they want don't they?

This season they've broadened it quite a bit and I kind of agree. When I stumbled onto this last year I thought it was pretty dark. Funny, but with some depth. Though it happened that those first two episodes I saw were not typical, there was still an edge to many others in that first season. Monk was a sick and tragic man hanging on to an out of control merry-go-round with all of his strength, desperately trying to make sense of a world careening on the brink of disaster before his eyes. Our laughter came from the incongruity: reason, intelligence, competence all issuing forth from apparent total disfunctionality.

This year he's simply a repository of foibles, a constructed comic target with no complexity or reality underlying. Still pretty enjoyable though.

I don't follow awards; how were Peter Falk's nominations for Columbo categorized? (I would think he must have had several.)

Too bad I won't be surprised when I watch it tonight.

How hard is it to wait a couple of days to post stuff like this in a thread title, particularly since this is a forum frequented by people who time-shift TV?

Wow !! Someone finally won an award that deserved it.:)

So how hard is it for you to avoid all news programs, entertainment programs, newspapers,Internet news site, Yahoo!'s front page and news headlines and friends to not hear spoilers about an awards show?

Posted by: cello

I've managed to do it, only hearing about spoilers over here.

Not that I care personally, but I think it's just common courtesy to not put spoilers in the titles of threads. This is the tivo forum, not the "I love watching live tv" forum.

Not hard at all. My TV hasn't been on since last night, I don't read the morning newspaper, and I know better than to go to certain websites that will have spoiler information on their frontpage. There are only two other people in my office, neither of whom watch TV, so I don't have to worry about them inadvertantly saying something I don't want to hear.

It's all about knowing what places to avoid. An online forum that is normally very good about putting 'spoiler' in the title of any thread that contains information somebody might not want to see who hasn't seen a particular show yet is NOT one of those place.

I agree, I don't see why the spoiler has to go right in the title. Newer posters often just don't think about it.

The lesson is that we need probably need to add the TV Show Talk forum to the list of places to avoid, if there's an important spoil-able show sitting in Now Playing.

I'm sorry, you're right, I should have put spoilers or I shouldn't have posted it in the head, my apologies. It was already on the news here front page in my newspaper, so I didn't think about it when I posted. In other postings, I'll think first.

It's a common oversight ccouger, certainly not the first time it's happened here. :)

If you want to, you could still edit the title by hitting the "edit" button over on the right side of the page, in your initial post. Maybe call it "Emmy surprises!" or something like that...

Well we have 1 person that's committed to it. Only 99,999 to go. :)
