My SVR-2000 to which I added a Maxtor 40 GB started freezing last week and will run (albeit briefly) when unplugged and replugged. What is the procedure for removing a hard drive and returning the unit back to its original state? I want to be able to use the unit in the interim while I look for a new hard drive.

Make a compressed backup from the pair and restore it to the original A drive. You don't want -s 127 or x in your restore options, and if it's an 11-partition Series 1 unit, you don't want p either.
