Seies One Endless Reboot

HI folks! It's been a long time since I've posted here because I've been too busy watching TV to do anything else!

I had my series 1 upgraded by the mighty Hinsdale about a year ago, only because since the twins were born, I barely have time to watch the Tive, much less upgrade it myself.

It had been working flawlessly until this weekend when I went to New Orleans to put on a few pounds.

When I returned, I found that the Directivo was in the endless Starting up, then Only a few more seconds...loop.

Since this is a series 1, and not a recent upgrade, I was wondering if there was anything I could do to diagnose the problem...I not afraid of voiding any warranties, since it has already been hacked, but not by me.

It now has two HDs which I assume must be married to each other.

What can I do to diagnose and fix the problem?

I did a search, but just saw stuff that referenced the Series 2 with this particular problem.

It does suggest a failed drive. Try booting without the B drive. It can't get past 'almost there' in that configuration, but if it gets further than 'welcome' then the B drive has failed and is blocking the bus.

If that doesn't change the TiVo's behaviour then the next step is to hook the drives up to the PC and run diagnostics (Maxtor's PowerMax for Quantum drives) and see if that identifies a failed drive.

Which upgrade did you do? If you replaced the original drive, do you still have it?

Thanks for the reply.

The original HD was also failed and un-recoverable...come to think of it....(this was a long time ago) I may have just had the one drive replaced with a bigger drive.....

I am going to open the unit and take a look. If there is just one drive in there I will download the diagnostic programs for it and see what they say.

If it is dead, I guess it will be just a matter of replacing the drive with a new one tomorrow.

Great excuse to get more recording time.

I will report back with my findings.

UPDATE: I did indeed have only one drive.... I guess this can only confirm the thought that this is a failed drive. It is a MAxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 120 gig drive.

I am going to buy a new drive or drives tomorrow at Comp USA or Best Buy (I don't want to wait past tomorrow, or I would get a better deal online) and bless and install.

Now for another post....
