You should re-post this message over to the "Coffee House" area.
But, seeing as you're here, I'll try to answer your questions...
Is it hard to install
By and large, most folks don't have any problems. Installing a TiVo isn't much more difficult than setting up a VCR. In some ways it's easier because there are prompts as you go through the process. It does help if you do read through the user manuals that come with it.
I have 2 televisions would I have to buy 2 units?
Only if you want different programming on each. I have only two TiVo units and I'm distributing one of them across all my televisions in my house -- all eight of them. This is a little more "advanced" though.
What kind of cables would I need?
Actually, the TiVo usually includes all the cables you would need with the unit (unless you have some unusual needs)

First - I'm no expert.
Remember that an "ex" is something that once was and a "spurt" is a small drip. Consequently, an "expert" is a former small drip.
By the way, you're best if you have a phone line to start with.
If you're interested, you can browse the stuff in the forums. There's a lot of good information here and at http://www.tivofaq.com/
