WishList w/Multiple Keywords
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

When I set up a wishlist, I specify one or more keywords to look for. For example, I set up a wishlist with keywords "flying, aviation, airplane, plane, pilot". Turns out that Tivo never finds any matching programs. Tivo apparently ANDs the keywords together, instead of ORing them (like a Web search would). I think it would be better if Tivo would OR the keywords together when doing program searches using keywords.

According to what I have read, if you put quote marks around something it looks for that exact description. Leave the quote marks out and it will check the words individually.

Yes, TiVo does an "and". The only way to do an "or" is to create a different Wishlist for each word seperately. A pain, but it should work.

I'm now doing it this way. I'm getting some good matches, but also some duds. For example, one of my keywords is "pilot", because I'm looking for programs about people "pilot"-ing airplanes. Of course, this WishList also catches series pilots of a bunch of crummy sitcoms and such.
As I type this, I realize that simply ORing the keywords wouldn't give me the result I'm after. Things would just work out like the above silly example. It really needs to be like a Web search, where programs are ranked or scored according to how well they match my multiple keywords. Maybe I'd get to set a minimum score for matching programs to make it onto the list.

Could be worse...you could, like me, have wish lists for "train" and "trains." If only there were some way to tell TiVo that I only want it to find programs that have descriptions where those words are used as nouns, not as verbs. http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/smile.gif

I have a keyword search under "model." (OK, I'm shallow.) I'm constantly deleting recordings for model airplanes, trains and the like. It's a small price to pay for such a great feature.
