Adelphia Cable rant

Adelphia cable (in the Buffalo area) decided last night to change what channels they are showing certain stations on. This wouldn't have been so bad, but they didn't warn us! Instead of getting a movie that my wife had set up last night, we got 2 hours of the Weather Channel. Tivo is still confused, and it's 4:30 in the afternoon! The guide is still showing the old line-up. I hope it clears this up with tonight's call. I had to go through and manually change things for today. How annoying is this? Don't they have any concerns for Tivo owners? Maybe I should write them a strongly worded letter. This was just plain rude on their part!

Well, FD, DirecTV offers locals in your area. Hint, hint. ;)

Nothing Adelphia surprises me except if they give good service.

Strangely, here in Cleveland adelphia isn't to bad. There were bad hours for the cable modem for awhile and tech tv was having causing problems. We went through 6 cable boxes in a month because the freezing of channel 129 would make the box throw an error which would cause nothing to be propperly recorded until I or my wife would find the box having a fit. But i have to say any change to the lineup has been forewarned so that has not been a problem yet. And what is making me happy right now is Adelphia used to have a rewards program where we would get points for having services. Well after the whole embezzlement fiasco the program was cancelled. Well recently we got a post card basicly appologizing for cancelling the program and wanting to make it up by giving us a new free service for awhile. LSS (too late) we no have 6 months of free showtime. So adelphia makes me happy right now.

Yep, I just ordered my DirecTiVo today, good bye Adelphia, all your crap and "new" pricing every 3 months.

Fuzzy... They actually changed lineups on Tues. 9/23. It is true, they did not inform Tribune. But they did inform TVGuide.com so you could get info there. They updated their own www.adelphia.com site a day or two later. (that's sad)
They also had ads in The Buffalo News on 9/24 and 9/25 with the new lineups.
I emailed TiVo and Tribune on 9/24. The updated channel lineups should have been downloaded to your TiVo on the morning of 9/28, as they were with mine.
If yours are still wrong - please let me know and let me know which Zip you're in and what the problems are. In all regions of the city (I have 2 other friends who can confirm) and in zip 14127 they seem to have everything straightened out.
It should have been done automatically, but because Adelphia kept it all a secret it took some doing. But all was well within 5 days.
PS I only have their analog basic service and now I get Bravo. I'm glad about that! :)

I noticed yesterday that the info is correct now. I can't believe that I've went a whole week without noticing. Musn't watch those channels much. As for the TV Guide channel... I honestly forgot all about it. Ever since we got Tivo last Christmas, I've only used the Tivo guide. It's actually kind of embarrassing!

I don't watch the TV Guide channel (actually it's unchecked in Channels I Receive). But I checked there *just in case* and they did have the new info. That's what I used to get all the changes to send off to TiVo.
What bugs me more is supposedly the reason they did this was to offer different, more flexible packages and to get ready for HDTV possibly as early as Oct. (although WKBW and WUTV don't even broadcast in HD yet) and so far, no mention of either of those things.

TV Guide publishes a bunch of "Adelphia editions" of the magazine in various markets around the country, including the Buffalo area, so it makes sense Adelphia would notify them first of channel lineup changes...as far as I can tell, TV Guide magazine and tvguide.com use exactly the same set of data.

Ugh...they're at it again.
Adelphia deleted ALL of their lineups in the Western New York area except those within City of Buffalo limits (the ones I just had them fix).
Seems they got rid of all their different suburbian lineups and put in place 1 single lineups for everything except City of Buffalo.
Problem is, now a bunch of TiVo users are going to be told "Your lineup no longer exists".
Also, they decided to name this new lineup "Adelphia Niagara - Niagara Falls" which makes absoulely no sense for areas of WNY that aren't near Niagara Falls.

I just got that message Sunday morning. I ran through the set-up again. What a pain. Never even thought that Tivo would stop recording for a while, including the one it was currently recording. :( Next time, I'll remember to check the "To Do" list first!

TVGuide does that for Comcast as well and the reason they are the same is because the TV Guide mag, website and guide on DCTs are all out of the same database.
I found that out when I needed to inform them that they were showing the East Coast timeslots for the History Channel here in WA instead of the West Coast.
They got it fixed in about a day but that is when I found out that all of it is linked. Want to see something funny? TVGuide provides our digital cable box guide but we use Tribune for our Monthly Cable Guide. Good times.

That's typical of Adelphia. I had to look through 5 different lineups to figure out mine.
The one named for my community wasn't even close....

In South Florida they have also changed their lineup and my TIVO has been unable to update to the new channels. I tried to restart my TIVO service last night and it still doesn't realize that Adelphia made a change.
Anyone have an idea how to make the change and get TIVO working again?
Thanks.

It's possible that Adelphia did not inform Tribune Media Service (who provides TiVo with their channel guide data) of their changes.
So, you'll have to ;)
Email lineup@tivo.com and give them SPECIFIC details (zip code, cable co, channel changes, your phone number, etc) and they should contact the cable co for you and fix everything. It usually takes about 5-7 business days.
