Maxtor Powermax Fixed Errors, now won't unlock

It's me again, after trying this, that and the other thing, I decded to run a Powermax scan on my hard drive to see what it said. It found errors and 'fixed' them. but now my drive is being reported as 10mb and I can't unlock it, I've tried it a bunch of times, I've powered down the machine, and I've tried it on primary master with qunlock 0 and on secondary master qunlock 2.
Looks like I'll be calling Maxtor for a warrenty replacement, unless somebody has an idea to try or sees that I was doing something wrong.
I tried changing my Dell from Auto to User, to tell it that it's a 120qgb drive, but it doesn't let you pick the drive size, it only lets you change UDMA and another setting that I don't recall right now.
I'm 90% sure that the drive was unlocked when I ran powermax on it, seeing that I tried to mount it just before and couldn't, and if it was locked I would of unlocked it and tried to mount it again.

There have been a lot of porblem reports in the past on the Maxtor 120GB drives with 2MB cache locking (even in non-TiVo use).
Let us know what happens.

I am one of them but mine was 8mb cache. I wish they would delete all forum threads that say use qunlock. That was only for old Quantum drives. As I understant it, the new Maxtor passes the identification querry from qunlock and qunlock thinks it is a Quantum and writes to the firmware and "fries" it. Debate is whether the fact Maxtor bought Quantum has anything to do with it. I am in the process of trying to get Maxtor to give me an RMA but so far no go. I told them I used it in a Tivo and since then it wont show more than 9mb and cant be seen by Windows/dos/linus. They are blaming it on Tivo OS and say they dont support use of their drives in Tivo applications?????

Qunlock is the ONLY practical way to unlock the current Maxtor drives. You just have to use it properly -- don't run it unless the drive is locked.

That's one of the reasons why I bought a 250 GB WD for my upcoming upgrade--I could have bought a Maxtor for about $10 less but I don't trust them because of the locking issue.
I bought a Maxtor 120 GB drive earlier this summer from Staples online, had the same problem you have and returned it to the local store for a refund--a shame too because the price at the time after rebate was $79.99.
