Hi all. I got my HDVR2 from Directv and plan to put in 2 120 gb drive (one now and one 3 months later). I plan to get it from one of those site that has everything set up. This is the part I got confuse, please help.
If I get an add on drive along with my factory drive, can I swap out the factory drive 3 months later with another 120 gb drive?
One site told me it is not possible (or very difficult) because both drive (factory and new one) are marry together as one drive. If I want 2 120gb drive 3 months later, I need to buy two new one.
Other site told me, no problem, just take out the factory drive and put in the new one.
Another site suggest that it is possible but I need some software to do the job.
I am very confuse, can anyone shred some light on the subject? Is it best to just replace my factory drive now and do an add on later? However, I also heard that if I do that I need to do something to the first drive, is it true?
Many questions, very confuse.
Thanks.

We'd love to know the site that claims you can remove your factory drive and pop in another 120gb drive in its place...for a dual-120gb kit. They should be tarred and feathered.
Here's the bottom line:
Say you buy a 120gb "Add" kit and put in in your TiVo...you now have a 40gb + 120gb. To do this, the company that sends your drive does not need your 40gb drive.
Now, say you want to replace the 40gb drive with a 120gb drive, so that you'll have dual 120gb drives. To do this, both your first 120gb drive and your new 120gb drive must be in a PC at the same time. Therefore, if you want an upgrade company to do the work, you'd have to send them at least the 120gb drive. If you want your programming and/or settings transferred to the dual 120gb drives, you would also have to send the 40gb drive.
So, the answer is this: It is possible, but it is much more painstaking than simply adding a second drive. It is NOT possible to just pull the 40gb drive and replace it with a 120gb drive.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. It really help. I think the best way to do is to get the 2 drive at the same time.
