SVR3000 Upgrade Question
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK...I'm confused. I have an SVR3000 with an 80gb hard drive. I simply want to purchase a 120gb drive on sale for $80, configure it, and put it in my Tivo as the B drive. I don't want to back up A, I don't want to mess with swap files, etc. The New Hinsdale How-To says that I need to configure the A drive to recognize the additional storage space, is this correct? If so, how can I purchase an additional B drive from Weaknees and it's just "install" and it's up and running.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Just found this thread, it kinds of answers my question, but would appreciate other's input. By the way, nothing against Weaknees, I have bought several drives from them in the past. And they are awesome for customer service...I've had them answer questions even on Sundays, and they are very responsive to all questions. I highly recommend them to all!

I have the same Tivo and am considering the same upgrade.
It would appear that there is more than one way to skin this cat.
Curiouser and curiouser.

Hey, we're geeks! Having only one way to skin any (technological) cat would be a sign of inadequacy :D

If you are taking the time to buy and then configure your drive, you may as well pull the original 80 out and make a backup.
To configure your 120, you will still need MFS Tools and you will still need Hinsdale's instructions.
Just my opinion seeing enough people come back later and ask for images. In my case my 80 is sitting in a box, buy I made the backup anyway.

Curious: any idea why those people asking never get an answer? I don't want to seem snide, and I mean it as an honest question because I need an image myself. Having searched these forums, the SVR3000 seems to be the Unicorn of Tivo backups -- sought by many; found by none...

Just buy it from Weaknees and be done with it. I've upgraded my 3 SVR3000's this way and it was a no brainer. Nice to have detailed instructions and the proper cables.

It's also a no brainer to buy the HD's, y-cable and ide cable and download and print out the tools.
Much cheaper too, but even if you upgrade by using one of the vendors above, you still have the same problem if you A drive fails. You have no backup.
If this person is willing to use the tools to Bless a new drive then I suggested going the extra step and make a backup.
