Active partition keeps resetting itself

T-60 upgraded and tried to enable telnet by editing rc.sysinit in /mnt4 /mnt7 with the telent login line. Tivo reboots and restores a default rc.sysinit without login line only on /mnt7. I have created a sysinit.author file with the same permissions as the sysinit in the rc.d directory with the bin/bash and tnlited lines only. TiVo reboots and erases the .author file in /mnt7. I have set read only switch before umount and still .author disappears. I am at a loss as what the problem could be.
Ping and 401 do work and on my lan it is .100.
Help please!
I would hire someone.
