SAT-T60 A drive backup/size?

I'm looking to add a B drive to my SAT-T60, and after initially planning on going ahead without a backup, I'm beginning to shift into CYA mode.
I'm running Mac OS X, so I'll be using OSXv4Blesser for the B drive. Is making a backup of the A drive as simple as doing a dd to a second drive?
If I copy the A drive to a larger drive and install that in the Tivo, will it take advantage of the additional space, or will it still think it's using the same size drive as what the original came from? If it has to be copied to a drive of the same size, what's the size of the A drive in the T60?
My hope would be: copy A drive to a larger drive and install that, bless a new B drive and install that, and if the whole thing goes up in flames, put the original A drive back in solo.
This seems too easy, which is why I think I'm going down the wrong path.

Of course, after cracking the case I find that I'm the not-so-proud owner of a factory-outfitted two-drive T60.
Looks like I'm going to have to track someone down locally who has a PC (which, oddly enough, is going to be a challenge).
