Help please -- T60 rebooting

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok I did a couple of searches and can't seem to find the answer so here is the question.

Background:
My T60 HD started making chittering noises and then I got "Cannot boot kernel". I tried to "dd" the drive but no dice every time I either get an error or the input and output numbers don't match. So thanks to some kind soul here I was able to find a 3.1 backup image off the web and burn it to a disk.

Problem:
I followed Hinsdale's guide and "restored" my image to both new drives. I placed them into the Tivo and powered it on. Goes to "Welcome. powering on..." sits there for around 20 seconds. Then the screen flickers and we are back at the same powering on screen. I let this happen 10 times never gets past there. I then pull the HD's out and checked the cables. Everything was tight and cabled correct. Tried again same result.

I then decided to try just one of the new drives. Restored the image to it. But still only gets to the powering on screen. I check all the ribbon cables in the drive they are good. I know my A drive is the masters because when I restored it I restored to hda. So I am outa ideas and need help.

Thanks

What card do you have in the unit - football or P4?

Also, are you sure the image was 3.1 and not older? You might need to edit bootparms.

P4
site and readme say 3.1 How else can I know?

Potentially by the size of the image, but you really don't know what compression level was used, so that may not prove definitive. You might just dig around for another image - or you might try the edit bootparms and see what happens - it can't really hurt considering you can't get the unit to boot.

Okay I have made it a little further. Found a 2.5 image and restored from that, but it didn't help.

I then tried switching which drive was master and which was slave. I now have a Random(IE not Tivo's) Maxtor 40Gig as the master and my 46Gig IBM Deathstar as the slave. Now it get all the way to the a few more seconds screen before rebooting.

I could really use some help on this one. I have tried 3 different images. On 2 different drives:
Maxtor 40Gig (not the orginal tivo drive)
IBM Deskstar 46Gig

The best I have done is with the Maxtor as the solo drive I managed to get it to boot all the way up and had it lock up in the setup of my dish type at 28%. It locked at the same point after 3 manual reboots. None of the other combonations of drive or drives will get that far. I believe I was using the 3.1 image the time I got it to boot.

I am completly out of ideas here.
