turbonet....sometimes I get a link sometimes not

I have two philips SA series 1 each with a turbonet card connected to my Microsoft 4 port switch. They both have static IP addresses and I made sure they have different MAC addresses. One works superbly but the other one does something weird. If I reboot, sometimes it wont give me a link to the switch (no link light and no ability to telnet/ping it). I try rebooting a couple of times and eventually it comes up ok. I used nic_config_tivo and compared the log for both turbonets. I get the same for both cards:

Oct 2 23:14:15 (none) kernel: ^I/lib/modules/ax88796.o was compiled for kernel

Complete.

I am puzzled but I think something running in the second tivo must be clashing with the turbonet driver.

Jafa..any ideas where I can start debugging this ?

I am running 3.0 on both tivos.

thanks in advance.

No reason you shouldn't be able to run multiple turbonets in your environment; things to check:

1) make sure you are not using an 'uplink' port on your switch; in fact, try a different port in your switch as you might just have a faulty one

2) check your cables - you might just have a bad cable

3) make sure your turbonet card is plugged to the edge connector ALL THE WAY. if the foot on the underside of the unit is preventing you from being able to insert the connector all the way, you need to remove it.

there are some photos here on how to do the foot removal:

thanks for the advice...
1 and 2 were the first two things I checked. I tried a different cable and different socket on the switch. The card looks as if it is all the way on but I will double check. Thanks.
