Question # 1 : Will I still be able to record and play stuff on my VCR if the Tivo is hooked up?
Question 2: Will I be able to PLayback the STuff on Tivo and record it on my vcr in case i want another copy on tape?
Please get back to me, Thanks.

Yes, you can do both. You will have to split the cable. You will need 0, 1, or 2 cable boxes depending on what kind of cable you have and what you want to record. You might have to swap cables around when you want to record to your vcr.

How will i know how many Cable boxes I need?

Each cable box is able to decode and output one channel at a time. So, if you want to be able to simultaneously watch HBO while recording Showtime on your TiVo and Cinemax on your VCR, then you will need three boxes. If you don't need to do all three at once or if you don't often watch scrambled or digital channels, then you will need fewer boxes.
