Keen Eddie coming to Bravo
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: Captain Video
Television Weekly is reporting that Bravo has landed the rights to Keen Eddie. They plan to air the series next year, including the six episodes that Fox did not air.
So all of us Keen Eddie fans can finally see all thirteen eps some time next year.

The Futon Critic is reporting that it has been slated for DVD release too, but no street date yet.

Bravo RULES!!!!
Awesome news.

Thank god someone had the brains to snag this show.
This is another one of the shows that Fox didn't deserve - it was too good for them, and they were too stupid to realize that.
But that can be said of Firefly, Family Guy, Andy Richter and a host of other shows that Fox has run off their schedule because they weren't smart enough to schedule it for a good nite, and didn't want to take the time to give the show a chance to build an audience.

Schweeeet! Thanks for the news!

Mmmm... Miss Moneypenny. I still have the "on all fours" episode.
Is there any possibility there will be more episodes produced, or are they just going to run the existing ones?

I went to Parmount King's Island this past weekend and on the Flight of Fear ride queue, the monitors outside were still advertising Keen Eddie for last summer on FOX.

That sounds about right. King's Island has gone down hill since Paramount bought it in my opinion. Just like most places when a corporate sponsor takes over!

Yay!
Now tell me that Bravo is picking up John Doe, which Fox canned for ratings purposes then got lower ratings on the new shows.

More good news...
Mark Valley and the producers have been signed by ABC to a development deal to do a cop show.

I loved Keen Eddie and am sure glad we'll be able to see the unaired episodes.

I am so happy that the edgy folks at Bravo have a keen eye. This was a whipsmart show and Fox...again...has just lost any semblance of sense.
I'm beginning to develop a theory and I'm curious what you think.
If you watch Coupling on NBC this year (and this holds true for a bunch of other stuff) what I see is bulk sales. What I mean by this is, the writers and producers are trying to pump out X episodes as quickly as possible.
By contrast, I feel that many BBC-produced shows have more quality rather than quantity. They'll produce a "series" (rather than a season) of 6-12 episodes and then air them all, see how they do. If they do well, BBC orders up another "series" of episodes. It creates a clever demand for the stuff people want. Now, granted, BBC isn't competing for its very existence the way the broadcasters are in the US. The US broadcasters though are alienating their audience.
I am sure there are several instances this season where one network launched doodoo just to steal eyeballs away from a better product. That doodoo is destined for cancellation, but if they can keep you from watching the other thing...the one that's sequential...then they've won.
Then there's the monkeying around with start times, run times, last-minute lineup changes. To what end? To alienate those folks who later sit down to watch stuff they WANT to watch...that are interested? Or to reward those folks who watch it live (pseudo-ensuring eyeballs are on the ads?)
I think that I'm falling out of love with TV.
I'm planning to watch all episodes of 24 after the episodes end for the season...that way I can be sure that I want to bother with Fox. If they cancel it, then I won't watch any of it.

I followed your link, but I'm more interested in the FCC story about the "victory" of pay services, cable operators and (are they kidding?) customers, over the ruling that digital broadcasts can be encoded as "record once" or "record never." Sounds like a macrovision or a Windows Media approach to delivery.
Let the world unite against this crap. Before you know it we'll have to pay a fee for the right (which we already have don't we?) to record video/music for personal use.
Does it seem to anyone else that we are going backwards?

A good example of this is MI-5. I really like that show.

Reminds me of when Marvel launched a kajillion crappy comics titles, in order to flood the stands. Many of the books were so terrible they wouldn't last more than a few issues, but the important thing to Marvel was that people buying comics would see more of their books than anyone else's.
Predictably, this strategy caused alienation and disillusionment among readers.

I still love TV and I think it's solely due to TiVo. I'm not subject to network gamesmanship, I don't have to watch "doodoo," I don't even know when most shows are on.
But I do agree with the quality over quantity theory. Most of the consistently good shows, IMO, have abbreviated seasons. (All of the HBO series, The Shield, The Office, etc.)
I also don't know what the network's are hoping to accomplish with the "monkeying around." TiVo viewers don't care much, and live viewers just get more confused.
Mac
Posted by: weymo
I feel somewhat vindicated. And I agree with you. One of my favorite shows this season was on Showtime...Dead Like Me. There were maybe 10 episodes and the end of the season was satisfying. I like that. If they never made another episode, I would be happy with the catharsis of all the characters and the resolution of the drama.
Of course, I'm hoping they'll make lots more and keep on all the major players, but that's just a bonus.
If the networks would take this approach...commit to a series for 12 episodes, say, (and I'm thinking Keen Eddie again) and allow the story to arch and unfold in the scape of those 12 episodes and commit to the audience that all 12 are there, then I would be less reticient to risk missing a favorite show for some new upstart. Now I'm speaking in terms of the live viewer. Two TiVo's have all but solved this problem for me. But still, NBC has gotta know that Whoopi and Coupling are dogs...they gotta. Test audiences would have to be drunk AND stupid to laugh like the laugh tracks that they tried to spice into that mess. On Whoopi the players even played to the audience to try to get them into the groove...something I haven't seen since Sanford and Son.
You'd think that in the half century that has become the Information Age, entertainment would not require qualudes to enjoy.
<end of rant>
Thanks again for your support.

Great. Another nail in the coffin that holds any rights I might have to watch what I want, when I want, and not have to pay through the nose for it.
I dunno about you, but this kind of crap will spell the end of TiVo*.Christ, the gyrations we'll need to go through to "time-shift" anything that the broadcaster deems "record never".
*Open-Source/Hardware versions of DVR's used *after* the decryption mechanism don't apply.

Keen Eddie Premieres 9E/8C pm Tuesday, January 20 !
Bravo has acquired the rights to all thirteen episodes of the critically acclaimed drama Keen Eddie, six of which have never been aired. No definitive date has been set for its debut, but look for it in early 2004. At this time, there are no plans to produce additional episodes or TV movies.
Looks like Bravo is going to schedule it every Tuesday night. Pilot episode on 1/20, Sticky Fingers on 1/27.

Ex-cellent.

Sorry, but I must ask.
What the hell is Keen Eddie? Can anyone give a short description?

Cuz I'm lazy...

Very funny, sharply written, with likable characters. Didn't talk down to the audience.
Obviously doomed to cancellation, at least on FOX.

I'm looking forward to this. When KE was coming on Fox I had to use an outside antenna to pick it up and I had a very hard time seeing the picture. Now that it's on Bravo I'll enjoy the show even more!

Was the production order the "matchbook" order? Seeing ones he pinned on the map I hadn't before was a bit of a teaser, I must say.

Now their saying it won't:

KEEN EDDIE (Bravo) - Bravo's off-network run of the short-lived FOX series will not be shown in production order as originally expected. The drama will now kick off with its pilot episode on January 20 at 9:00/8:00c followed by "Sticky Fingers" on January 27. "Sticky Fingers," the 11th episode produced of the series, is one of six installments previously unaired by FOX.

This is great news. I was just getting interested in this show, when FOX pulled the plug. Thanks for the info.
Posted by: redwingsfan
As much I'm happy to see it back, I still don't understand why they have to mess with the order!! I guess this means I'll record them all, save them, and then watch them the way they were meant to be watched (provided they DO show the entire series THIS time).
Posted by: mwhip
Another update:
[Quote] KEEN EDDIE (Bravo) - The cable channel has announced the next "new" episode of the short-lived FOX series will air on Tuesday, February 17 at 9:00/8:00c. The episode, "Inciting Incident," was originally scheduled to air on FOX this past September.Quote]

If a season pass is set up for First Runs Only, will it pick them all up? Is it treated just like a new series even though half of them were shown on another network?

No. You are going to need to set up a season pass for Bravo and set it for first run and repeats. If you look at the guide data on the show it will probably show "repeat" and if you have it set for first run only it will not pick it up.

I'm so excited that the entire season is gonna be on. Can't wait to see Sienna Miller grace the screen again too.
Check out this clip from an unseen episode on the Bravo site.

Is the show serialized? I'm trying to understand why so many belive it's so important to see it in order of production. Will I miss something if watch them in the order that Bravo airs them? Obviously I've never seen this show.
Posted by: Fustanella
If nothing else, him pinning the matchbooks on the London map at the end of each episode will make more sense. :)

Well, part of the show is the fact that Eddie's roommate can't stand him when he moves in, and he notices right away that she and her boyfriend aren't right for each other. As the show moves on, you *should* get to see her transition to realize that fact and gain respect for Eddie. Not seeing them in order screws that storyline up.
Posted by: kitsap
Tivo to the rescue! I'll just record them all, then watch them in the proper order. :)
Posted by: sieglinde
If you have never seen the show, be patent. I found the first two or three episodes to be pretty bad and then it got intriguing.

Hmmm, maybe that's why Bravo is showing the episodes out of order.
Your comment makes sense to me: I began watching this when it first aired, and I cancelled my SP after a week or two. I figure I'll give it another chance now.
Posted by: ClutchBrake
I thought about keeping them on my DTiVo to watch them in order but I don't think I have to willpower not to watch knowing there is so much Sienna Miller goodness just waiting to grace my screen.
Posted by: jeff125va
Where can I find a definitive listing of the episodes in the proper order? Although I will probably skip through and watch the Moneypenny scenes.
Posted by: ClutchBrake
From the other Keen Eddie thread:
1. Pilot (a.k.a Eddie)
2. Horse Heir
3. Achtung Baby
4. Eddie Loves Baseball
5. Sucker Punch
6. The Amazing Larry Dunn
7. Black Like Me
8. Sticky Fingers
9. Inciting Incident
10. Who Wants to Be in a Club That Would Have Me as a Member
11. Citizen Cecil
12. Keeping Up Appearances
13. Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite
Posted by: sieglinde
Then they were not originally shown in order. Sticky Fingers was the second one shown originally.

You sure about that? Epguides lists it as being unaired. What was the plot?
I wonder if the order was messed up anyway. The names of the episodes are KED-101, KED-102, etc. They certainly weren't scheduled to air in that order. The air date is how Epguides has them listed. This conflicts with the technical episode name.
Posted by: redwingsfan
The "as written" order can be found on this website under Episode Guide.
Love the sticky wicket! :D

Here's that list, which matches the KED Production numbers at TV Tome:
1.01 pilot
1.02 Horse Heir
1.03 Keeping Up Appearances
1.04 Citizen Cecil
1.05 Who Wants To Be In a Club That Would Have Me For a Member?
1.06 Sucker Punch
1.07 Black Like Me
1.08 Inciting Incident
1.09 Achtung Baby
1.10 The Amazing Larry Dunn
1.11 Sticky Fingers
1.12 Eddie Loves Baseball
1.13 Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité
I think this should be the correct order, but it is all very confusing.

I just saw it too and I love it. My wife likes the dog.
Why is it that I always get hooked on canceled Fox shows? Family Guy, Fastlane, and now Keen Eddie.
Posted by: jeff125va
So there's the original order, Fox's order, and now Bravo's order? I'm definitely just waiting until they're all aired and watching them in the original order. I just hope if it ever comes out on DVD, they don't come up with yet another sequence.

I really enjoy the show. I don't think I can wait to have them on the TiVo to watch all of them in order.
I really enjoyed last night's episode. I watched it the first time around on FOX and forgot all about the bit with the dog and cat. It was hilarious.

Must be a guy thing. My husband loves this show and is sooo excited Keen Eddie is back on the air. I think it is so, so and after watching 3 or 4 episodes (original airing on Fox) I think I'll find something else to do while he's playing catch up. That's what multiple TV's (or Computers) are for!! :)
