Alias 10/5

Wow - can't believe no one has started this one yet.

I thought it was a typically good Alias ep, but nothing spectacular. Although "Biochem Geek Syd" was pretty hot ;) I thought Syd's actions at the end (losing it when freaky mad scientist guy indicated he knew something about her missing 2 years and then died) were a little out of character, but since I've never lost 2 years of my life, I don't know how I would act in that situation. However, when I was watching the group therapy scene I kept thinking this was so not like Syd, and she pretty much confirmed that reaction afterwards. Does anyone think that any of the other disappearances are related or linked to Syd's? I also liked the scenes with Sark, and had my curiousity piqued by Jack's IM exchange with Irina.

So - what did you all think?

Quite a change of heart she had about Vaugh. Last episode she was enraged by his presence; now she's ok with him coming back to the agency. And why would he want to come back after all it cost him? My suspension of disbelief is pretty high with this show, but some things do not add up.

Posted by: SWFan

I agree about Vaughn. The turnaround in Syd's attitude is hard to take. But more hard to take is Vaughn coming back. Why would he come back after being gone for so long? I have a feeling this is going to go back down the road of a Syd-Vaughn relationship, which I could honestly do without.

Posted by: DreadPirateRob

I don't know - I thought the Syd's outburst in last week's episode was more of a Syd lashing out because she was hurt and still dealing with the realization that she was missing 2 years of her life. Now that she has had a few days to think about it, and to hear from others (i.e. Weiss) that Vaughn didn't just whistle Dixie and move on to the next girl, she probably realized that she might have been a tad harsh (which I thought she was).

Posted by: ClutchBrake

Perhaps Vaughn's willingness to come back has to do with his wife...

Posted by: Chandler Mike

I still love the show, but as someone mentioned in a thread before, she's been back a week and has already been involved in about 2-3 missions?

I would have rather seen her back a month or two before they let her do anything. Pretty unrealistic to me, but that's the only drawback.

I also think Syd's feelings toward Vaughn are understandable. She's emotional, and even though she went off on him two episodes ago, I think that was probably something she wishes she hadn't said.

And after Weiss told her how Vaughn dealt with things when she died, she's probably realizing how hard it must have been for him.

Anyways, I love the show, has some things that are harder to believe than the previous two seasons, but let's hope they don't do too much more of that.

I've ALWAYS thought that Weiss was evil.

I still think he is.

There's gotta be at least one mole, right?

Posted by: Graymalkin

So Vaughn leaves the CIA and becomes a French teacher, and he marries a top operative in the NSC? Does ANYBODY in this show have a relationship outside the office? Now that Will's in witness protection, there's not one civilian left.

Yeah, with the introduction of Vaughn's wife, I'm afraid they're going to focus on the love-triangle.

Posted by: Graymalkin

And of course Vaughn's wife is the mole.

Posted by: TampaThunder

Weiss didn't take long to start hitting on Syd either. Hopefully that won't go anywhere.

Yeah, maybe, but I think Weiss is the one guy who's not a mole, aside from Marshall :)

This might be far out there, but I have a sneaky feeling that Vaughn's marriage is simply an undercover plot by the agency to ferret out a mole in the NSC. Also, was anyone wondering (like i was) why Jack wasn't using a speech recog. program on his laptop? Seems like they could have jazzed things up a bit by letting him speak into the pc for his online chat with his wife.

I heard that Syd's mom won't be on this season due to scheduling conflicts, but does anyone know if Will Tippen (Bradley Cooper) will be on? I'll be disappointed if he's off the show.

Posted by: Graymalkin

Will apparently is being written out of the show, but he'll make a guest appearance at some point. According to something I read somewhere (TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, etc.).

Posted by: njtaz

It seems like vaughn got married pretty quick. Weiss was saying how Vaugh was really upset for about 6 months then sometime after that he meets Mrs. Vaugh. Dating to marriage in a year and a half? I don't know seems like a little hole in the time line, but heck this is TV right.

What's the mom working on right now?

Now ... are we making a mistake by placing "time" in the world of Syd into "reality" time (our time). i.e. what we see happen ... happens from Sunday to Sunday.

If they do tell (or hint) at a time frame, then please correct me. If not, then why cant we place Syds re-introduction into the CIA over weeks and/or months?

That combined with what she told Dixon about feeeling normal again by getting back into the field.

Hasn't she only been on 3 CIA sanctioned misions so far. 1 in the first week & 2 last episode? <1 being the the Sark/Agent swap in the desert?>

I think its going to be a good season ... you did hear that Vaughns wife is going to be investigating the murder of the Russian guy Syd killed ... didnt you?

In the support group session, Sydney said she had been back a week.

Marshall is, well Marshall. However, I thought that Kendall's interaction with Marshall was much more entertaining than Dixon's during the planning meetings. I guess it really didn't seem out of character for Dixon, but it made Marshall sound more stupid than naive this time around (IMHO).

I think Sloane and Marshall's interactions were the best. I doubt we will see that again anytime soon though.

I have a semi off topic question - I missed the Alias premier (got a new HDVR2 and hadn't set up my passes yet) but I just found out that a friend of mine's band was featured twice during the first episode. Apparently there was a scene where a woman listening to one of their songs on headphones sits down on a train. The producer (I think the producer) is such a fan he even had her hold up the CD for the camera.

My question is, could you actually see and read the CD? Apparently it's right before a bunch of people burst in and start blowing things up. In the same episode they played another one of their songs before some other big fight scene too.

You see there ya go! Thanks for correcting me.

Ok ... so Syd has been on 3 CIA missions in the pass week ... correct?

1 being the warehouse she lied about being at (1st episode)

1 being the prisoner swap (2nd episode ... not really a "mission" if ya ask me)

1 being the femme fatale chemist (2nd episode)

I, IMHO, dont think it that far beyond belief that she has been on "missions". The first one she went on was to help get her dad outta prison (she was alone, had no one & needed him ... theres motivation). 2nd one ... i dont realy think was a "mission". And the chemist thing she went to feel "normal" & plus Sark was the son of the Russin guy she killed (more motivation).

I could make it out in HDTV, don't have the SD version around anymore. Attached below is a picture I just took of the screen. While a screen capture would be clearer, I don't have that capability.

Not to just pick at you... but ummm two full body clones...

I do like this show. I don't have a problem with Syd's change of feeling re: Vaughn.. hey, she's a female, for all us guys out here, that should explain it... :D

Posted by: lpennock

Knative - Wow, thanks for going to the effort for that picture. It looks like the band's name, Venus Hum, is clearly visible. Cool. The Alias producter apparently found out about them from the iTunes Music Store and just really liked them. Invited them to tour the set in L.A., etc. I was jealous hearing the story recounted.

Thanks again,

-Lewis

I didn't see your post until now, but I recognized the CD cover as Venus Hum. Then I recognized the music.

They opened for Blue Man Group here in Houston. We really enjoyed them and bought their CD. It is currently playing in my car, good driving music. I think they are coming back here with Blue Man Group in November, and it is one of the reasons we want to see BMG again. So, we are fans!

The best exchange was the scene between Jack and Sloan. Its like watching a chess match. You just have to sit a wait until you opponent makes a move. Can't wait to see what Sloan is going to pull next.

And I can't believe that Dixon has let Sloan off the hook for blowing up his wife. That intel from Sloan must have been pretty darn good.

I just deleted my Season Pass for this show. Every episode seems the same. The new NSA chick at the end being Vaughn's wife broke the camels back.

I remember last season there being a lot of discussion and theory that Sark was Syd's brother. But it seems this episode blew that out of the water if Sark is the son of the Russian guy that Syd killed.

Also near the end of last season Sloane told Jack that Jack was going to be working for him again or be instrumental in the coming together of Rimbaldi's plans or something. If that's true and not a subplot the writers have dropped then it's obvious that Sloane has some major stuff up his sleeve.

Maybe Sloane is the secret behind the curtains leader of the Covenant and he's financing them through his present job?

I find it so amusing how writers throw in people working for the NSA as field operatives. If you ever read any books on that particular agency they are code breakers and signal interceptors w/ translations, not field ops. They make their job seem so glamorous, when they are a large bunch of highly intelligent thinkers who break communications.

Thank God, I thought I was the only one..... This was my favorite show on TV last season and I came back hoping that this whole 2 years into the future thing was going to be a short story arc and then it would be cleared up. But it just keeps getting worse. My girlfriend and I are about 2 episodes away from deleting the SP.

One the things I enjoyed about the show is that it was particularly well written (definitely not in terms of believability, but in terms of tight, snappy dialogue that doesn't leave you going "Oh so and so would NEVER say that") Now it's like they replaced their writers with a barrel full of 4 year olds. Just awful.

Boooo!

Yeah, I know what you mean. All two episodes have been practically identical! You'd think after one episode, they'd go for a change of pace, but no...same old same old!

Posted by: skillsrhodes

Sorry, should've been more clear. I've got no problem with the show's repetative nature. I mean, how many times can you ask someone to write, "Sydney puts on wig, beats up bad guys, retrieves microchip, saves world."

What I used to admire was the snappy way in which the show moved along. Now I just find myself sitting there shaking my head in disbelief that any show can fall so far so fast...
