Dropped first digit potentially solvable

Not sure if this would affect anyone else, or if it solves the general problem with many General Instrument cable boxes that don't get the first digit...

As a new TiVo owner, I struggled with my GI DCT2244 problems. The main problem is that when changing channels, the first digit was missed. Not a problem for those <100.

I think adding a option in the config menus to start off the channel changing with a "dummy" code, like the "Menu Exit" button for my AT&T Digital service, would 'wake up' the DCT2244 and allow it to properly process all 3 digits.

I tried this out for about an hour, and got 100% success without any fort on the front of my box. Simply hitting the "Exit" button on my GI DCT2244 box and then changing the channel always allowed the box to pick up all 3 digits.

So what I'm proposing is that a menu option be added, much like the "send an Enter key?" config option, to start out the sequence with an Enter key or a Menu Exit key or something.

Andrew,

What code are you using? I've had good success with 10006 - Fast. I did upgrade the IR Blasters with the stick-on model that they sell at http://www.smarthome.com .

Also, by any chance are you using one of the colored remotes that some people have? If so, I've found that they will almost always not send the correct signel to switch to a 3 number channel.

BrettStah,

I'm indeed using remote code 10006. I'm considering buying those stick ons from smarthome though.

Currently, I'm set to medium speed, with the front of my DCT2244 wrapped in aluminum foil.

My DCT2244 is an oldie, though. Even pre-TiVo days, hitting three numbers real quick on it's remote sometimes missed one. It's slower than a dog in displaying the menus and such.

I think that's the same exact model that I have. No need for foil though for me. My sister has the same model, and was having trouble with channel changes. When I went to visit, she had moved the IR blasters away from the optimum location (she still uses the original ones that came with the Tivo). So, in case you haven't thought of the obvious, I would double-check that your IR blaster is pointing exactly at the IR receiver of the cable box.

Good luck!
