netflix vs. season passes for syndicated shows

Anyone decide to dump the season passes to a syndicated show and just order the discs from Netflix?
I kinda feel like I'm paying twice but between Netflix and Tivo, it's not like I run out of stuff to watch.
The advantages would be: knowing for certain that you're seeing every episode in order, better video quality, better audio quality.
What do you guys think?

I use Netflix for HBO and Showtime shows that I want to watch, but I don't subscribe to HBO or Showtime. In that manner, I'm only paying once. :)

Yeah, obviously I'm talking about shows that are being shown on channels I currently get.

I haven't yet subscribed to Netflix, but I think that's the way I'd go. I refuse to hack my DirecTivo, as my G/F would kill me if I had more than 35 hrs of TV queued up at any one time. I recently deleted season 3 of the Sopranos, the second half of 24-day 2 (recorded from Labor Day) and gave up trying to save episodes of "The West Wing - The First Term, Yes The Good One." Even though I probably watch far less TV than the average poster here, my Tivo is often too full for storage of more than two eps.
With the widescreen TV, I've sorta become a "movie snob" and would rather pay for a DVD rental than Tivo a movie -- even from HBO -- which may be edited for TV or "formatted to fit your screen." Whose screen? Not mine. I see my movie snobbery starting to spill over into syndicated TV shows. In fact, many shows in syndication are cropped a couple of scenes if I'm not mistaken.
Of course all of this will probably change with the HDDirecTivo.
So, for PQ, Digital 5.1, DVD extras, widescreen format, and storage space....I vote Netflix.

I have a 243 hour Tivo, but prefer original aspect ratio, too. I do Tivo movies from IFC and AMC frequently, though.

Netflix would not work for the current season. Unless you are content with missing out until the DVDs come out, I would stick with TiVo season passes.
However, I have rented The Sopranos on DVD.. I don't have HBO, and only saw it from time to time in hotels. Seeing it all in orderwas cool. But I *still* haven't seen the mostrecent season, as it's not on DVD yet.
I'm a West Wing fan as well.. Started watching it halfway into the second or third season (SP on the TiVo). So, I've missed a lot of early episodes. But since then, I;ve seen everything, and am pretty much in the loop on everything. But no way would I just stop watching the current season to await the DVDs.

I agree. No way would I drop SP's for current/new episodes. I believe the original query was about SP'ing syndicated shows. For instance, I could record at least a half dozen episodes of "The Simpsons" every day if I wanted to catalogue older episodes, or I could get the Season 1 DVD instead.

I use netflix almost exclusively for catching shows I missed. I also only subscribe during the summer.
This past summer I watch a season of the Shield, Dark Angel, Queer as Folk and Oz. I think I may have snuck another one in there but don't remember what.

I used it for the first season of 24, and I am currently watching oz and waiting for the first disc of alias.

I didn't know Shield was out -- hrmmm. Is Shield really a series you need to watch in order? One thing I like about CSI and the Law & Orders is that they're somewhat episodic.
Well, I haven't been watching Angel because I want to see everything in order and I left off with Buffy on season 4 and haven't seen any of Angel. I've been Tivo'ing them but haven't made time to start watching them yet and I need to d/l the ep guides to make sure I get them in the right order and such. Or, I could just order one of each disc from Netflix until I get through them all. By then, the current season of Angel will probably be out too.
But, I'm thinking I may want to do Sopranos first. I've caught 2 random eps of Sopranos (in hotel rooms) and dug it but never had HBO until recently. From what I understand the new season starts in Feb so I have until then to catch up with 52 eps (4 seasons, 13 eps per season). I think I can probably do that.
I appreciate the info, guys.

I prefer the DVDs because of the bonuses that they put on the DVD. The commentaries and featurettes are often very entertaining.

The episodes of The Shield will mostly make sense if you watch them out of order, but there IS an underlying storyline that permeates the whole series that you'd miss out on.
