Friends 10/9 (Spoilers)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

There may be hope for this last season of Friends. It looks like they are going to unwind this Rachel-Joey relationship, which never felt right to me (it was sort of interesting when it was one-sided [Joey], but has not worked at all once they both went for it). Once again it was an episode treating Ross like a buffoon, but at least Schwimmer didn't totally overplay it this time which made that story thread tolerable, if not funny. At some point we might even get a scene with all six of them in the same place together.

I don't find the Ross idiot stories funny at all. They have gotten so predictable. Ross is the one character I really don't like.

This season, I found lots of pretty funny lines in the shows, so it looks like I'll enjoy it more than last season. I love it when Phoebe releases little tidbits of her past that are incredibly outrageous.

Phoebe: "You'd never hold up if you were tortured!"
Monica: "Neither would you!"
Phoebe: "I did!"

I still think Chandler stole this episode...

Rachel: "He kept running his hand up my thigh and I kept slapping it away"

Chandler: "You didn't like that?!?!?"

The whole Rachel-Joey thing was forced from the beginning but I am bitter that they strung us along all last season with it. Grr.

I did not appreciate the problems Rachel has making out with her dear friends making a reappearance - even if they acknowledged the recycling in the show.

Rachael and Joey storyline - not funny, but a relief to see it end

Ross storyline - not funny, but slightly less awful than last week's "drunk Ross"

Chandler "storyline" - not funny (ok, you are whipped and you get pedicures, we get it)

Phoebe and Monica storyline - only redeeming part of the episode, especially when Phoebe asked if Mike was in the car too.

Scrubs had a lot more laughs last night than Friends if you ask me.

I thought this was definitely a weak episode. Not many laughs at all.

Back in the first season or two, Ross was such a great character. A really nice, normal guy, kinda shy, but someone you'd like to hang out with. Now, he's a total buffoon (to steal someone else's description) with few redeeming qualities.

What? No spoiler tag for Scrubs? :D

Based on the first 2 episodes of Friends, I wouldn't mind deleting my Season Pass. I won't, only because it's the last season.

I hope that this whole Joey/Rachel thing is over. It does not work at all. I'm assuming that Rachel and Ross will get back together before the season is over. I mean, they have a kid together and all.

This was definitely not as funny as the week before.

The whole thing between Rachel and Joey was god-awful. I've never seen something so forced before.

She's slapping him and acts like she doesn't know why? THree times? It was just WAY overboard to me.

And they just sit there, look at each and are like "well, yeah...I guess that's it."

Chandler was funny, the Ross tan thing was pretty good too.

So glad Joey and Rachel are done, I mean, that just seemed like two siblings together to me, not sure why.

...and when did Jennifer Coolidge gain all that weight?

My favorite line for this episode:
Joey: "Soldier Down"

She's been gaining it throughout the "American Pie" trilogy. I did catch her on an old Seinfeld episode a week or so ago. She was much thinner then. I still think she's hot. She'll always be Stifler's mom to me. :)

I also like the references to Joey's superpower when it comes to undoing women's clothing.

"Once he just looked at my bra and it popped open." LOL

It reminded me of the episode where Phoebe was trying to fake-seduce Chandler, and Joey told her to show her bra. He just barely touched her shirt and all the buttons popped open.

That would be nice. I think they have had to learn to shoot scenes like that over the years due to the various side projects of the actors. I think it has become a rare occasion when all are free at the same time anymore.

I thought this episode was much funnier than last week. Especially the Ross story line. Last week his storyline was just horrible and pathetic. This week though i thought it was really funny. Definitely a step in the right direction.
The Monica/Phoebe story line not so good, but the Chandler/Joey scenes were pretty good.

I do hope they finish off the Joey/Rachel romance its just not going anywhere.

I wonder if they made a sharp about face in the Joey-Rachel relationship when JOEY became a show for next year, and he's moving out to California.

They were in love with each other for how long?? and now after 3 episodes of being together, they're done?

Not that I mind it, because it was getting annoying, but I wonder if they changed the plot, since 1, Rachel's not going to California, and 2, they want to start to setup Joey's move.

An article in Newsweek directly addresses this. The creators said "Joey" and "Friends" are two distinct shows, and anything they do on "Friends" will have no bearing on "Joey"; iow, they claimed there would be no buildup here to affect the other show. I don't think they'll be able to stick to that, though, because NBC has a vested interest and I'm sure is putting some pressure on to make sure "Joey" becomes a hit, and if that requires using "Friends" to lay the ground work, I'm sure it will happen...
