I thought this was the best episode yet of the American version. I noticed they changed several things from the British version (for example, Steve says crap instead of sh!t), but the most noticeable were Jeff yelling "Nipples!" out at the funeral (that had me laughing, since I wasnt expecting it), and Patrick telling Jeff about the "pretend everyone is naked" philosophy at the funeral instead of the bar.

What did everyone else think?

Maybe I have just been ruined by the British version, but I just can't get into the US version. It is just hard to see anyone but the original actors playing the characters. It would be like someone else doing Friends or Seinfeld. Kinda like the Bizarro Superfriends!

I'll probably keep watching it until it conflicts with something else on my DTiVo.

I do agree with you though. As far as the US version goes, I liked this one the best.

I am just glad they didn't change the Reservoir Dogs reference. That's my favorite part on either version.

My take on it was that the restrained laughter (or stacked glasses) builds & builds until you can't hold it in anymore and it all comes out at once (or the glasses comes tumbling down).

I could be wrong, but that is how I understood it. Of course it would have been more clear if he had knocked them over at the end of the story.

The main point was really just supposed to be Jeff spouting another of his theories. The laughs were supposed come from his demonstrativeness, and the punchline ("like now" "Yeah, pretty much.")

I thought it was good too. Sally's role wasnt pushed to the back in this episode. I liked the changes, including one they made between the press video what they aired. As i have said all along, next week will be a big week for the show since it's the first original NBC script.

Oh a little note... next week's original episode Check/Mate is airing out of order of being filmed. The fourth episode filmed was an original, titled Present Tense, while Check/Mate was the sixth episode filmed.

I watched this one last night from BBCA (It was recorded on tivo months ago)... I can't wait to see how they cut this one up and what they change.. but it's a REALLY good episode..

I'm loving this show. I actually laughed out loud a couple times. I've never seen the BBC version and I think I'm doing that on purpose for now because I'm enjoying this and don't want to ruin it by comparing it to something else. =)

Painful, utterly painful. I'm not watching any more of the converted British episodes. I will, however, give original U.S. episodes a chance.

Though I still think Jeff is the weakest of the US cast. I hate to say it, but he's not dorky enough. UK Jeff was obviously the sole inhabitant of his own world. The US Jeff is just a geek.

I though Coyle had made up the language himself, that is what they seemed to imply on the DVD interview.

For some reason that episode seemed to be missing about half of the
original material. In most cases it hurt, except I think the added
nipple gag was funnier than Jane laughing in the original moment of
silence scene. I can't tell anymore if these are funny. I know the
originals too well and I am not really absorbing the new shows, but
instead only notice the differences. I wonder what the running time
was for this show (ok I'll figure it out now). My Tivo said it was
officially 29 minutes, but there was about 1.5 minutes of lead in
from Will and Grace and ended at the 26.5 mark. That leaves 25
minutes of show and commercials. The first break was about 2.25, the
second 3 minutes. So the show was about 19.75 minutes. That is about
10 minutes shorter than the original, no wonder it seemed short.
The "giggle loop" just doesn't sound as funny without the accent.

Hmm, you're right. Coyle did a good job. The language sounded internally (and externally) consistent. It sounded a combination of Romance based and Russian based. That's why I thought Romanian. The Romance (Latin) based was consistent because I understood part of it. Scarey.
