Hi All,
We watched The Core DVD last night and I'd like to make some observations.

This is a movie that should not have been cut up as much as it was! The movie wasn't all that bad, but after watching some of the deleted scenes, I really feel it could have been a better movie uncut!
During the showing of the movie I found myself confused about various points, most of the deleted scenes filled in where I had been confused.
I understand that the box office numbers weren't very good for The Core and I'd probably agree if not for the DVD extra features.

In my opinion, this could have been a first rate film with just a few changes. It is already 2 hours and 14 minutes long but I'd gladly sit through 3 hours of it with more of it's side stories intact!

Anyone else have any thoughts?

My wife and I were pleasently surprised when we rented it. The deleted scenes were pretty good as well. I wasn't confused by the movie though.

I really enjoyed it. A good home theater makes a difference.

It was basically Armageddon underground. I'm sure the same people who moan about the feasability of Armageddon will moan about this one too.

I saw it on a flight out to Cali. Now, I know airlines have a policy about swearing and scenes of plane crashes. But I also heard about The Core being altered shortly after Columbia disintigrated over Texas earlier this year. On the version I saw, they skipped the entire space shuttle crash landing scene but quickly mentioned it when the general (colonel, whatever) guy was chastising Hillary Swank in the halls of some building. He said something like "you crashed the space shuttle," or something to that effect. In the real movie, did they gloss over it this badly, or did they show some of the crashing scene?

Maybe confused was the wrong word. Let's say that it would have flowed much better with most of the extra scenes. The extra scenes provided more depth into later scenes. We would have a better understanding of the character dynamics earlier on if the scenes weren't cut so much.

The feasability of "unobtanium" and all the temperature extremes will certainly bring out some naysayers. But I view it as a modernized version of many of the older sci-fi movies with equally outlandish concepts. Sci-Fi's not supposed to be real.

If the shuttle crash that I saw was what they originally had in the movie, I really think they were overreacting to have cut it out.
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

The shuttle was off course during landing so they made a correction and landed it in one of those concrete river channels that's always empty. It was a pretty good scene and didn't show much destruction and no loss of life that I remember.

As one of the three people who say this movie iba theater, let's just say the space shuttle thing was just a tad stupid.

They would not be that far off course. The landing site is a desert with many better places to land the the storm runoff ditches.
