DirecTivo boot hang

I have a Series 1 Hughes GXCEBOTD that I added a 120GB drive to in March using Hinsdale's Upgrade Configuration #1. It has been running fine until Friday. I came home to find it at the Welcome Powering up screen. I unplugged it, waited a couple of minutes and plugged it back in. It then went to the just a few more seconds screen and stopped. I left it overnight but it never booted. I read through these forums and from what I read figured one of the hard drives went bad. I pulled the drives and ran the Maxtor PowerMAX software but neither drive showed an error. I tried copying both drives to new drives using dd but the new drives do the same thing. I can mount the A drive from the MFS tools Cd and can read the drive fine. I then took another drive and restored the backup I did before the upgrade. It boots fine and the system is working. However I have a lot of recordings on the original drives I would like to recover. Is there any log file that might tell where the boot process fails or is there any way to restore just the os part of the drive leaving the recordings intact? Any help would be appreciated. I'm not a Linux expert but do know some of the basics.

Anyone have any ideas? I would really like to get the recordings back.
Should I try posting this in a different forum?

I am having the exact same problem. It also started on the 13th (probably a coincidence). My DirecTivo (that I upgraded) has been working for at least 6 months and all of a sudden it is stuck in the Powering Up screen. I have tried everything. I truly don't want to lose what is on the disk. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a series 2 Tivo. 2 Weeks ago, I added a 120G HD, and it has been working great. Then last night we were watching shows fine at 6pm, went out for a while, got home at 9pm to the Welcome, powering up screen. Pulled power and it went through a few power up screens, then gave me a severe error page that said to keep the phone plugged in for 3 hours.

My Tivo connects via a wireless LAN.

Should I call Tivo support, or will they ignore me since I upgraded the unit? Is there any way to get back to where I was yesterday afternoon, or should I just restore the backup image I created when upgrading?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Deano
