Save To VCR (pc capture card)...connection distance?

I really value this entire group of forums, so the last thing I want to do is cause problems by talking about the taboo topic of video extraction. However, it appears that discussion about the Save To VCR function (SA2...60hr) with a pc capture card is not as taboo as the direct discussion of extracting streams of recordings over a LAN...please let me know if I'm wrong about this.
For those of you who have been using the Save To VCR function and a capture card to get the video onto a pc, I'm curious as to the physical setup of your pc and TiVo. My pc is in a room across the house from my family room, where my TiVo resides. A cable connection (S-Video or RCA) would have to be quite long, and would be quite intrusive as it winds through the house. :-) What about signal degredation over that distance? Do most of you have a pc in the same room as your TiVo, or do you move the TiVo box closer to your pc when it's time to Save To VCR?
Do they make Y-split S-Video cables, so I can send one side of the split into my tv, and the other into the capture card (when necessary)?
I suppose that a laptop with a capture-capable pccard would work. Also, using a video card with a built-in tv tuner would be able to capture the cable (not digital cable...yet) stream from the wall, but that would be a real time thing, not really related to a recording already stored on the TiVo.
Thanks for any suggestions or advice.

I'd be surprised if the TiVo's output stage had enough oomph to drive a split video cable even if it wasn't much longer than normal.
Perhaps a video sender would help matters?

It works.
I have tested that feature before.
