Burning resistor on DVR2 power supply board

I have the HDVR2 - upgraded with self-install Twinbreeze complete + weaknees prepping my own 120gb drive (maxtor) and all was well since March '03. Last night, while watching live tv, a burning smell (unmistakably a burning resistor - I used to build Heathkits so I know that smell) filled the room - came from the tivo. Powered down and found a very hot resistor on the pwr sply board. Powered up again and that resistor got too hot to touch within minutes (I didn't wait for the boot sequence to finish). The particular resistor is mounted perpendicular to the board, and is larger than your usual quarter-watt resistor, which suggests to me that it is supposed to dissipate some heat. But roasting hot?) Both drives are pretty full and search time has been slow, but not intolerably so, and everything else was just fine. Any suggestions?

CC or DTV is selling power supplies for $99 (w/free remote, HD, case, etc).

Otherwise you probably know the drill. If the S2 power supply is like the S1 DTiVo PS there are a lot of common parts to the S1 SA PS- which are under $10 shipped at allelectronics.com.

The Other Forum (google jjbliss) has reports of large parts of the S1 and S2 PS being common and people moving the parts.

Haven't seen much on S2 DTiVo PS.

Circuit City and DirecTV, respectively. Though I thought those units are for "new customers only".

New or existing customers can purchase at that price.
