Clear Tivo backdrop after HDVR3 120gb upgrade?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just upgraded my Series 2 DirecTivo tonight. Everything went smooth(thanks Hinsdale). When I click on the Tivo button on the remote, the green backdrop screen with the Tivo choices is no longer there. The choices are in white letters right on the live feed? Has anybody had this problem?
This receiver has the newest upgrade 3.1b or something.
Thanks,
Tom

You didn't read Hinsdale properly. You'll have to make a fresh backup from your original drive and this time, use the -f 9999 switch.

HDVR3 i am jelious..
i just bought and upgraded a HDVR2 with 120gb
i paid only $99 for my reciver tho.
Robert.. anything you dont know? hehe
the Hinsdale was difficult to read. it would be better to just list commands and basic steps for each type of upgrade.
(dtv tivo series2) (original A to new larger A) (quick no movies) upgrade section.
so many options and ways of doing the upgrades. then the commands diffrer for standalones vrs dtv tivos, single drive vrs duel drive, original tivo vrs 2nd series, upgrading single vrs adding a second vr upgrading a pair.

I used this command:
mfsbackup -f 9999 -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc
I had a little trouble figuring out where the spaces are in these commands. Is there a space between the -f and the 9999. I did not put one in there when I did the command.
I figured I was going to have to do another backup - I'm glad I left the original drive original. :)
Thanks.

Your HDVR2 turns into a HDVR3 when you get the software upgrade. I had a HDVR1, but the modem went out and I got a HDVR2/3 for free with my ESP contract with Circuit City. I then figured it would be a good time to upgrade so I went and bought a 120gb drive for $69.95. Sweeeet!

As far as the commands in Hinsdale being hard to find, it really is the bible. We've started work on a slimmed-down, just-what-you-need site, but it's still in beta. Feel free to check it out - there's a link for feedback there:

Yes, there is a space between the -f and the 9999. Not sure if it makes a difference, but a space is shown in the instructions.
