I wanted to get a post started and see if anyone has had similar problems.

I recently purchased a directivo unit and it came with software version 3.1.1b-02-2-101.

Being the geek that I am I had to hack it and found Cobelli's compilation of proceedures for hacking the unit.

After a sucessful backup and restore and kernel replacement I decided to test the unit to see if it would boot. NO LUCK. I tried 3 different times and all of them sent the Tivo into an infinate reboot loop.

Has anyone had any luck with the new software and hacking thier unit?

of course 3.1.1b doesn't like the complete how-to. that how-to is not complete by any streach. it relies on the fact that 3.1.u5 and 3.1.0 are identical except for the kernel image which contains an initrd updated to prevent the bash_env trick. you can't use the old kernel on 3.1.1b because the files on the root partition are different, thus the initrd will remove them.

the only two ways to get into 3.1.1b are monte or flashing your prom
