120 WD hung on power up

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Svelte

Hard drive in Directivo 6000 started failing. It would go through power up and welcome then reboot. Had to copy image from my other unit. Copied image to back to failing drive. It sort of worked... could watch tv but not record due to error 51. Ran delete every thing. Then it would not make it through the initial setup - got stuck looking for satellites 28%...

Put image on new 120g WD using MFS tools, in test stage (were you put it back in the unit, before adding the extra space) it does not get past the powering up screen.

My eyes are going screwy reading all the docs. On rereading one of then it said to put the target drive on the ide channel 2 - I did not do that but the image went back on and it said successful restore. I don't think it is "locked" as it shows the full size when booted to Linux. (PS i'm an old dos dog, help)

Thanks in advance for your help

Then it would not make it through the initial setup - got stuck looking for satellites 28%...

This should fix the 28% issue

Symptoms

When guide is being acquired, the progress meter stops at 10% or 28% in the Confirming Setup screen.

Problem may repeat itself after a reset or power loss, or anytime someone does something that causes the guide to load.

Resolution - DVR/TiVo receivers

Remove power cord. Can be removed from outlet or from receiver itself.

Remove cables from both SATELLITE-IN connections.

Label the cables to make reconnection easier.

Reconnect the power cord. Make sure receiver is on.

Go through guided setup.

When the error occurs, press "Select for More Options."

Scroll down to next step, which is "I'll fix the problem later."

Reconnect the SATELLITE-IN cables.

Guide information will start to load correctly.

There is a download to fix the problem.

October - November 2003 download:

On Oct 1, 2003, DVR receivers started getting an automatic free download.

All DVRs will have the download by Nov 30, 2003.

Occurs around 2AM PT. (THATS WEST COAST TIME)

Customer can check version number. After the download, version will be:
3.1.0b-02-1 if receiver is HNS GXEB0T, Philips DSR6000R, or Sony SAT-T60.
3.1.1b-02-2, all other DVR receivers.

Download corrects these problems:

OSD "Acquiring Data" sometimes got stuck at 28%.

Audio dropped out after Pause.

Closed Captioning did not display long enough to read.
