When is a conflict not a conflict?

OK, so I tell my TiVo to record every episode of "Friends". Want to catch that cute closing scene, so I pad the recording time by a minute.
So last night they show two episodes back-to-back. TiVo automatically skips second episode, because there's a "conflict": episode one ends at 8:31, and episode two begins at 8:30.
But why is that a conflict? The system doesn't have to change channels! It just has to save the same video stream in two different places. Shouldn't be hard to do.

This is a common complaint about the current implementation of padding. Hopefully this will be augmented in a future software updated. For now, you either have to not pad at all, or keep a close eye on your To Do List and Recording History to see what will not be recorded because of the padding.

uhh.. If they are back to back. Why are you padding the first episode?
(or is that coming from how you have the season pass configured?)
Set up a manual recording for your back to back episodes with the single padding at the end of the second episode, and remove them from the to-do list that your season pass created.
Then any single stragler episodes can still benifit from the automatic padding.
Its annoying that it can't handle padding better.

I didn't know they were back to back. The nice thing about the TiVo is that it handles little scheduling details for you. But sometimes it doesn't handle them well.

They didn't create the "Recording History" item just to take up space at the top of the To Do list. Check it periodically.

TiVo handled it just fine, and did just what you asked for. Unfortunately, the network screwed you over by not adhering to their 30-minute block.
