I would like to see the Turbo Tune function from the basic Hughes satellite receiver added to the Hughes DirecTivo receiver.

For those of use who haven't heard of turbo tune, could you describe it?

Turbo Tune allows you to quickly select from 9 of your favorite channels. If you hit the SELECT button on your remote a 3x3 matrix of these channels pops up on the corner of the screen. Using the arrow keys you can highlight a channel and hit SELECT again to switch to that channel.

It's faster than the program guide for moving between commonly used channels, doesn't require you to memorize channel numbers, and only takes up a small portion of the screen when visible.

The function is standard on my basic Hughes receiver and I use it about 80% of the time when changing channels.

Sounds pretty cool for channel surfing...

Tivo has a Favorite Channels feature. And when you bring up the Tivo guide, you can filter the channel list to only list the Favorites.

If you have just gotten your Tivo recently, you may turn out to be as surprised as I was with how little you will wind up channel surfing... when you have 20+ hours of recordings available with things that you told it to (so all of your favorite shows), you won't have nearly the need to surf...

I used to use TurboTune all the time on my Hughes receiver before I got my TiVo. It was great when I used to watch more LiveTV (which I've largely stopped doing), but last night when some friends came over and we were trying to flip between several football games, I yearned for it...

The real issue is that bringing up the guide (either type on my combo box) and navigating around is still pretty slow, and TurboTune gives you easy access to nine channels, each showing the title of the current program when you slide over it. And all this while you're currently watching a program and without obscuring it (it's down in the bottom left corner). It's really a very cool feature, but probably trademarked, as well.
