Editing channel numbers

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

First time Tivo user and I have a serious "beef" with tivo.
Why cant we edit the channel number in the "channel you receive" to create our own custumized channel list.
I understand that the names should stay the same so that Tivo main frame could recocnize which channel the info belongs to, but editing channels numbers in a vcr plus fashion would allow you to not have for example 2 wbbm(sat) and 2wbbm(cable). But instead 2 wbbm and 3wbbm, etc...

You can't relabel the channels numbers, but you could use the Favorites list to make the list shorter. Not what you wanted, but that's all I could come up with.:)

There is a way, but it involves hacking your TiVo and installing TiVoWeb with the ChannelRemap on it. I use it all the time - for some reason, Food Network is shown on the wrong channel in my lineup, so every once in a while I have to set it straight (TiVo resets the channel numbers once a month).

Assuming you don't do much "live TV"...

Once you've had TiVo for a while, gotten your SPs set up, are using WLs to find programs, and TiVo is suggesting stuff you enjoy, you won't even remember what the numbers were. :)

Except that in my case, the cable line up is all srew up in my street( I guess) and half the channels are in the wrong order. So the recorded shows are not what they are suppose to be:(((
Worse, I also have cband satellite and Tivo doesnt support cband.
I'm left with a $ 1199.00 dvd player....

Where do i find some info on this. This might really help.

If you do not have a cable line-up that matches your actual line-up then you need to call TiVo support. They will probably have you fax them the official line-up (which you get from your cable company) then they will have a correct one built for you. I had to do this when I moved, it took them about 6 business days.

If it's a matter of just a few channels being wrong, then you can just submit that through the TiVo support web page, I also had to do this and it also took about a week to get a mislabeled channel corrected.

Head over to the underground forum. And TiVoWeb is at: http://tivo.lightn.org/

Note that you'll need to get a connection to your TiVo from a computer, either through TurboNet/ethernet or through a serial cable. Search the underground forum, it's been posted numerous times.

See, my problem is that the lineup is wrong for OTA channels - I can't fax them an official lineup because there's no cable company. :)

You might try looking to see if the OTA lineups are better in any nearby ZIP codes.

The best lineup I found has only 1 channel wrong. No big deal, I use channel remap to correct it - but like I said, the TiVo software checks once a month the local lineup against the central database, and if they differ it "helpfully" corrects it automatically then puts a message in your inbox saying so. Thus once a month when I see the new message I know it's time to go in and redo the mapping. No big deal, it only takes a couple of minutes. I have TurboNet.
