I love "Cold Case"!

We may have have lost Boomtown on Sundays, but this show makes up for it. The show has a lot of style, and the stories are really interesting. It used to creep me out to see the dead people popping up at the end, but it really gives each episode a sense of closure. Now if she would just stop calling her boss, "Boss"!
If you haven't seen it yet, give it a look.

Same thoughts here
On a related note, she's cute in a Meg Ryan way :D

That's exactly what I told my wife.
We like the show so far! It's got characters that are likable. Where have we seen the boss before? He looks familiar. Probably as a cop somewhere.

John Finn.

I hate to admit this, but both CSI's, Without a Trace, and Cold Cases are on my SP list. If I include Skin, Jerry Bruckheimer will be responsible for 1/6 of all my SPs.
Cold Case is good, though I hate the musical anthologies at the end.

Damn, I was just going to post a similar thread! :)
Last night's episode was especially a standout (hard to believe this show is on at 8pm!).

Oh, and one of my favorite things about the show is the use of music -- ie, using music from the appropriate time period of the case. Does anyone know of a site that is tracking the music used? Maybe the official website? And was that really Madonna's version of "Live to Tell" last night (over last few minutes).

The use of music is one of my favorite aspects of this show. As soon as the show started with the organ music, my wife guessed it was George Michaels's song.

...although the George Michaels song was about five years too early for the story...obviously they were going more for the content (a dirty song about faith) than the period!

I've recorded all the episodes but only watched the pilot and the second one. I liked the pilot but it was obvious who the bad guy was. Not nearly as obvious as the second episode though.Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
How could you not have known it was the husband/father firefighter two minutes into the show?
It does have a combination CSI and WaT feel to it and I liked that. I'm hoping the other episodes won't be near as predictable.

As was "Live To Tell" (1986). But both songs really, really fit/worked!
That and the old/new shots of the individuals involved really add nice elements to the show.

I agree the songs were very appropriate thematically, but if you're going to set the story in 1990, you should have 1990 songs. And if you're going to use 1986/7 songs, then set the show in 1986/7! Which would have worked just fine in this case...
Sloppy. But all in all, it's usually a very good show (I didn't like the fireman episode). And last night's was maybe the best so far. Except for the anachronistic music! :p

Good point! It would have also made
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
the mother's condition more believable, as more time had passed

I really like this show too. I think the slow-motion arrest scenes with the song at the end pf each episode (so far) are a little hokey though. Otherwise it's excellent, definitely among the best of the new shows this season.

I was thinking the same thing last night - great show, glad I kept the season pass. The first episode was just okay, but I usually give shows 2-3 episodes to see how I really feel. I am really enjoying it.
I like that good investigative work solves the cases, not necessarily some brilliant forensics. That way, it separates itself from the CSI genre.
I really like the lead actress, but the character of her partner is a little weak, maybe they should make him a little bit better detective or develop him a bit. I know the show is about her, it just seems strange.
On another note, I watched the most recent Navy NCIS right after Cold Case, and think that I'll cancel that season pass.

I don't know about you, but all I have ever seen him in is Dawson's Creek playing Pacey's (cop) dad. :)

We like the show here too. I missed the middle two episode because the station ran late (football???) - so now I pad it an hour, and was able to see the last episode.
In their defense on the George Michael song... Most of the songs on the radio station I listen to were not recorded this year - there are some, but most are at least a year old, if not more.

We also noticed the main character is the new Meg Ryan type (without the bad plastic surgery). I hadn't even read this thread, but we discussed it last night while watching the show.
This was the first time I had ever seen the show. I found it intriguing, but a little predictable. I haven't fallen in "love" yet, but perhaps I will.
Mr. J says I will like the show because of all the 80's music. :p

And without the helium voice, which is the one thing that would stop Ryan from ever being even remotely plausible in a role like this.

We'll have to see how the original Meg Ryan does in her new movie, In the Cut, where she gets down and dirty with Mark Ruffalo.

John Finn had a good role in X-Files as the guy who told Mulder that all the alien stuff was a hoax brought about by the Government to steer people clear of top secret military tests.

why have the last 3 episodes started recording 20 minutes before the show, i'm getting the last of 60 minutes, and then missing the ending.

Football running over. You can expect that to be the case until the first of January.

I still say this is no excuse. If football is consistently running over (and it is), then it's just bad scheduling. They should use something else to pad the hour or half hour out and start Cold Case at the same time each week. I'm certain that this is hurting the show's ratings (and no, I don't think everyone is watching the game, then whatever else, then 60 minutes and just staying tuned until Cold Case comes on).

Problem with Cold Case - at least on the East Coast - is the start time. If CBS has a 4:00 NFL game I have to set up a manual recording.
Posted by: Rob Helmerichs
CBS is clearly behind the times--FOX and NBC have had flexible programming in the 6-7 hour (Central) after football for a couple of years now, and never delay their Sunday night shows. Getting the NFL back on CBS is one of the worst things that could have happened for Sunday nights...

You cannot deprive the elderly of their full 60 Minutes. A revolt could ensue.
Posted by: Graymalkin
I scratched Cold Case from my "Now Playing" list last night without even watching it, since it was missing the last 20 minutes. So now I'm padding it with 30 minutes at the end -- AND keeping an eye on CBS football, to make sure I don't have to pad even more.
Posted by: laria
I like Cold Case but I think I'm going to have to stop watching it until football is over. I can't pad the recording because something else is recording at 9pm. :(

For once it's better to be on the West Coast. At least you guys get to see "Survivor" 3 hours before we do.
And I really enjoy the sense of closure at the end of each episode. And the music sets the mood so well, that I don't care if its a little off chronologically. This is one of the few shows that I actually watch live. Hope they can keep coming up with interesting stories.
Posted by: markz
I can't pad the show either. I actually had to use the old VCR on our other receiver to catch Cold Case this week since the DTiVo was recording two other shows after it's scheduled timeslot.
Posted by: rtype
Since Cold Case is still managing decent ratings despite this, do you guys think they might upgrade them to a better timeslot? Even Tuesday night would be an improvement. Catch people coming off of 24 or something.

I'm really enjoying the show too and also have resorted to a vcr to record it since I can't pad it or else I would miss L&O: CI

Just got full season pick up.
