Ok, we need more than that. Details?

What aired was PG. A longer, PG-13 version of the scene was "leaked" (yeah, right).

Actually, what I am referring to is the complete and utter suckatude of this episode.

Posted by: JYoung

ehhhh....

It was ok, nothing great.

Now with all those R.E.M. songs, they couldn't play Superman? :D

I kind of agree that it was a weaker episode, not up to the previous eps so far this season. I don't know if it was because of the REM soundtrack, but my senses were working overtime. Annette O'Toole needs a sunlamp, Kristin Kreuk has the most beautiful skin ever, Lionel is one hell of a noisy peach-eater, and he moves his lips when he reads.

I was ok with the dream sequences being interspersed with "reality", and thought it appropriate that in Clark's dream he got to go skinny-dipping with Lana, got a new car, saw Chloe give up pursuing the weird, and as a typical high-schooler, have a dream where a test was skipped. The dream definitely touched on Clark's fears of being found out by Lex, and if not for the dream, Pete would have had nothing to do this episode. "Clark - you overslept and missed your exam!"

My big question, though, is how did Clark and Lana manage to get into Sarah's bedroom? Exactly what do you tell the new neighbor that convinces him to let you into the bedroom of his comatose ward? I was almost dumbfounded when I saw them standing there.

I did also wonder: does Clark actually ever need to sleep? I know the mythology is being reinterpreted, and I haven't really followed the comics, but I remember the first episode of Lois and Clark pointing out that Clark/Superman did not need sleep.

So all in all, not a good episode, as it was disjointed, had a distracting soundtrack (I kept singing along), and left unanswered questions that should have been answered within the plot.

Posted by: Bryanmc

Yes, Superman has to sleep, has to breathe, etc.

What threw the wheels off for me in this episode was the Ring Wraith.

The dialog was sooooo bad.

"Return to your slumber..."

I swear I've got that exact line in a movie I made in high school. Cheeeeeezy.

Huge thumbs down from me on this show. Fortunately there wasn't much of the story arc in this one so it can permanently be deleted from my mind and not lose too much.

Posted by: connery

I thought for a freak of the week episode it was actually pretty good. You can't burn through mythos material like "Rosetta" every week. Considering these were dreams in the mind of a child, I don't think the dialog was all that bad.

And I must admit I didn't pay much attention to Lionel eating the peach :)

So now there's another person (Sarah Conroy) who knows Clark isn't the ordinary teenager he appears to be. And she's still alive!

Also, Chloe really did take down the Wall of Weird -- it wasn't just part of Clark's dream.

Well, I think Clark may have convinced her that he's that way in his dreams!

Stupid question since I'm not familiar with any of the Superman mythos. If he has to breathe, how does he fly around space like he did in the movies?

When he was talking to her in real life, I saw it still up, in the back after a few minutes in the news room. What did you see?

Posted by: Graymalkin

I thought Chloe said that Clark and Lana would have to go down and look through the county clerk papers because she had better things to do. I took that to mean that she wasn't doing "Wall of Weird" stuff anymore.

I didn't see the Wall. If it's still up, then I goofed.

[ vinny barbarino] I'm so confuuuuuuused. [/vinny barbarino]

Posted by: Bryanmc

I don't think Chloe took down the WoW but she did say something about having a deadline that she had to meet and couldn't go with Clark. She said she'd rather go with him, but couldn't.

Superman can hold his breath for long periods of time but not indefinitely.

Don't look to the movies for "accurate" Superman data. I mean, Mariel Hemingway was in space without a suit or anything for Pete's sake.

Posted by: allan

Actually, before 1986, Superman didn't have to breathe! They revamped him, in part because he had gotten too powerful, and now he can hold his breath for hours, but not indefinitely. I believe he always needed sleep for mental health.

Common mistake. "Superman" isn't really a R.E.M. song - they covered it, but someone else wrote it. From what I've read they're somewhat ambivalent about it and certainly don't promote it.

It was fairly obvious that the whole first 15 minutes was a dream, but the episode guide was a major spoiler (Clark dreams about a girl...). Why do they do that?

No Lana martial arts in this episode?? I was sure that she was going to try to whup (sp?) up on the uncle.

Yeah I was expecting that too.

You could tell it was a dream after clark got out of the pond and his hair was dry.

Posted by: drew2k

Not to nag the episode to death, but how exactly was the uncle benefitting from Sarah's coma as trustee? Lana's former home was nice and all, but it's not a mansion, and to all appearances he was definitely living a "simple" life. I know they had to come up with a reason for the uncle to keep the girl in a coma, but they could at least have shown some "real life" evidence of his interest in wealth to back that up!

.... must .... stop .... nagging ...

Also, Clark totals the family pickup, Jonathan screams at the crash scene loud enough to get Martha and Lana to come out, but they didn't hear the crash?

.... must .... stop .... nagging ...

And Lana quickly accepts the Kents' word that he just passed out and doesn't need to go to the hospital?

.... must .... stop .... nagging ...

Sorry, I just can't do it! This ep makes it too easy :D

From what I understood he was trying to get her out of the hospital and away from medical supervision so that he could keep her drugged. I figured he was receiving a moderate allowance as her guardian and would get it all once she was gone. Smallville would be a convenient out of the way place to settle for a while. He could kill her off after a time with no interference.

The lame thing that bothered me most was Lana confiding in Jonathan and Martha that she and Clark visited the neighbors and discovered the Uncle is the bad guy. Then she proceeds to go over there alone. Like Ma and Pa Kent would just let her go.

Ok.. so the episode had more holes than swiss cheese. And the dream thing was so obvious that I was chanting 'JR' through the whole thing... And there were plots holes the size of Montana.... doesn't make it a bad episode.

Oh wait... it does.

I can't believe I watched that slideshow just to see Clark's ass. Gee thanks, guys.

Posted by: jschuman

I enjoyed this episode the first time I saw it, when it was called The Sixth Sense.

Posted by: David Platt

I've come to the conclusion that Tom Welling has a new clause in his contract that stipulates he must be seen shirtless at least once every episode this season.

Posted by: rtype

Heh. Unbreakable one week, Sixth Sense the next? If they have crop circles next week, I may have to give up. :)

Chad Michael Murray on One Tree Hill seems to have a similar contract.

Isn't it great?!

Posted by: LooseWiring

Now if only Kristen Kruek had the same clause in her contract.

Well, you could briefly see Lana's ass towards the end. :)

Yeah, and how much do you want to bet it was a body double? From the slideshow (and episode) you never saw Lana's face in those scenes.

Posted by: Cat

I watched the beginning of the episode and was out of the room when the dream sequence with Clark, Lex and the sword happend. My fiance yelled for me to hurry up because I missed it. She scanned back so I could see what happened and within 5 seconds, I made a comment about it being a dream. When it really turned out that way she was mad because she was fooled into thinking Lex had finally figured Clark out and that I had figured it out so fast. I also kept thinking of Dallas throughout this whole episode. I hate dream sequences!!

Not all dream sequences are bad! To find some good ones, just watch That 70's Show. The dream sequences they put on are always hysterical!

Posted by: rtype

The dream sequence at the beginning of Aliens is pretty cool. Otherwise, yah, I agree -- and yes, it's always predictable when something like the Lex or Lana things happen.

Hey, a guy can dream...:D

Posted by: nineatesix

Good episode but the REM leverage was VERY apparent.

Posted by: vertigo235

It was real easy to figure out if you caught a glimpse of the description.

I'm in total agreement there

OK, I already deleted this ep, but I have a question: the other week, Pete made a crack about Lemon Pledge, and the episode had a Lemon Pledge ad. This week, Chloe made reference to Red Bull. Did they show a Red Bull ad?

She did? Missed that one. But I really hate the flying winged can Red Bull ads, so I'd have noticed and while there was one commercial break I was elsewhere during, I don't recall seeing it while I was around during commercial breaks.

Yeah, it was when Clark was trying to stay awake - Chloe told him "even Red Bull has its limits"

(sorry I'm late -- caught the rerun tonight :D )

I think we have to automatically make allowances where dr_maul is concerned. I mean, anyone that actually likes David Caruso's acting probably rides the short bus, right?

If I wasn't laughing so hard, I might've been offended by that :D

... finally someone else with a sense of humor! Starting my morning already having made someone laugh is almost enough for me to actually take a posting break...

... ok, almost! :D
