ER 10-23 **spoilers**

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This was the first episode I watched in HDTV.

Why in the world did they have to show the 80 year old grandmother topless?

Why not some 20 year old woman?

Why did I have to watch in HiDef????

My eyes.... they hurt.....

Posted by: dthmj

I didn't even think they could show a woman topless like that...

I have to admit that I did a double take on that scene.

I missed the episode, somehow my tivo thoguht a punkd rerun was a higher priority then er, which was ranked 8th, punkd was ranked something like 48! please what happened???

Posted by: scott408

I guess it's okay as long as it's not consider sexy? I remember watching CSI and one of the woman's breast w/ nipple was showing. Of course she was suppose to be a corpse.

When NBC pre-empted everything last week, your TiVo thought this episode was a re-run. You had to go and manually record it. There was a TiVo message about it.

If we were going to be treated to breasts, I would have preferred Elizabeth's during that opening segment...

This was the first ER in a long time I've liked for more than making fun of it. Much more like the first seasons -- I hope they keep it up.

Posted by: DougF

It was reminiscent of early episodes, but I think it was spread out amongst too many characters (and Carter wasn't even there and Luka only had one little scene). I've lost track of who all the new people are. To top that, a new regular joins next week I think (Linda Cardellini as Nurse Taggart).

I'm starting to wish they would scale back on prominent players a little bit and give some of the cast more screen time and better stories. Specifically, I'm dying to see Sherry Stringfield used a little more.

It seems obvious, but hasn't been said yet. But, is Abby going back to med. school?

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

I've heard that she does go back to medical school this season. I have no idea if she's going to work as a nurse at the same time, however.

I agree. Susan needs a good storyline.

And yes, Abby appears to be going back to medical school, why else would she be hitting up Keen Eddie to cosign the loan? ;)

Why not? There is nothing really to stop them.

Well, I'm feeling that all my favorite shows are going down the tubes. This is the first episode of ER that I have totally hated--I turned it off in the middle. I hated the persistent yelling and the negativity and nastiness that seemed to be in lieu of any story line.

It took three tries for me to get through the whole show. The last 10 minutes seemed to support a bit of a story line and that gave me slight hope, but I'm cancelling the SP to save space for some shows I might better enjoy.

I see a theme of gratuitous nastiness and unpleasantness and dour depressing shows seems to permeate all my favorite series. I don't know the cause, but it sure gets me away from the networks and over to cable for shows I enjoy.

 for this year's shows.

I don't know. Abby going back to medical school seems a little on the nose, but we shall see.

As for Susan...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I think that Susan will have some more airtime soon. The rumor is they are killing off Dr. Romano in a helicopter accident this season, and my guess is that her ex husband/friend with special privleges (Donal Logue) will probably die as well on the Life Flight chopper.

Exactly. It's OK as long as we don't enjoy what we're seeing.

A little off topic but thought I would chime in..

I got the message and was planning on manually recording all of my NBC's shows that night, but TiVo recorded everything just fine. I wonder if they assigned a new show ID to everything or slightly altered the shows names so TiVo wouldn't get confused with the 28 day rule.

I thought it was the worst episode of ER in a long time.

Amen. Isn't anybody *ever* happy or pleasant on this show? The nastiness even extends into the corners of the show. What's up with Frank the front desk guy being a huge racist all of a sudden? Why bring in a an appealing young actress like Parminder Nagra if you're going to make her yet another bright-eyed idealistic young doctor and then dump on her all the time? I should look on the bright side. December is coming closer, so we'll soon have the yearly "Christmas miracle" episode to whitewash the whole show in unearned and unfelt sentiment. Yeesh.

Frank has always been a jerk. I figure it was because he was getting cranky. :) He pretty much speaks his mind. The only thing is in real life he would be fired or the hospital would get sued. So why isn't it happening?

So is the reason for the new nurses, because in the last episode the old ones were fired? Boy there isn't anyone left from the original cast huh? Doctor carter was the last...wow.

Technically, Susan, although her lengthy vacation makes her an asterix. And I have a hunch the nurses will be back.

And Carter's still going to be around, just not every week. Is he still in the opening credits?

Another thing my wife noticed was that Randy was still on. They haven't shown her in forever.

Posted by: TeeSee

I noticed that too. (I always notice Randi. ) She's been off so long I'd assumed she wasn't in the cast anymore.

The nurses that walked out last week were suspended for 90(?) days.

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Put me in the camp that Abby is trying to gather funds to go back to med school. Why else would she be trying to get loans and needing cash so bad unless Carter was sugar daddying her. And WTH with her telling her ex that she never asked him for alimony, etc? Umm, the reason she is back to nursehood is that she was depending on him to cover her tuition and he flaked.

Elizabeth's opening scene was surprisingly sexy but very welcome.

No real resolution on the DNR grandma story? NO ONE came to look for the little girl?

WTH is going on with stupid Dr Morris? ::yawn:: That's right, I don't care

If Luka takes back Abby I will puke.

Frank was always an ass, but his outright racism wouldn't fly in the most open workplace and is there for shock value in lieu of real plot usefulness. TWA, likening the number of minority nurses to his last R&R to Manila? Someone would kick his ass, and my money would have been on whitebread Abby after he shared the Dear John letter.

I have been very lucky to have only been to an ER a few times in my whole life. If real ERs work as poorly as County General I will make a point to avoid them at all costs. 12+ hours and still unseen and in need of surgery? Is it really that bad out there?

A different Abby theory:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
How about about the loan is that Abby is going to follow / search for Carter and have a meaningful experience away from ER.

I think he's supposed to have something like a 8 week (episode?) hiatus from the show.

I'm fairly certain I saw Carter in the opening credits. If not, I know he is in those promos where they pan sideways across several cast members as they look at the camera meaningfully.

When did Weaver start? My memory of seasons 1 and 2 is a bit hazy at this point.

Season 2. I think she's the senior surviving major cast member, now that you mention it...

Posted by: dmaneyapanda

Carter is just on hiatus, for some paternity time. I remember it only being for 4 episodes, but I could well be wrong.

Posted by: Philosofy

OK, senior moment here: who is Randy?

Posted by: drew2k

Randy was punk-looking female clerk. She came on to the show before the gruff-ex-cop clerk, and usually was on the nightshift, and then disappeared for a while.

Posted by: Philosofy

Color me clueless. I still don't remember her. Oh well, I just watch this show with my wife: its not like I care. (About the show, that is. I love my wife.)

I'm sure you'll recognize her when you see her again. She's the clerk who dresses oddly under her uniform, and usually mouths off to people (especially the gruff ex-cop).

She looks like she's 20 and acts like she's 15, if that's any help.

Maybe Kristin Minter's IMDB entry will help..
