DD copy 2 questions

For DD copy, the Hinsdale guide only refers to copying the A drive to a new upgrade drive, is it okay to use this with both my A and B drives?

I have 2 40G maxtors currently, If I (can) use DD on both the A and B drives will I gain any recording time by upgrading to 60G drives (and using DD)?

Okay... bonus question - Am I fooling myself in thinking there is a benefit to having 2 40G drives as opposed to one 80G drive? - Does TIVO use both drives at once, or does it use the A drive exclusively until it 'needs' the B drive?

What sort of TiVo is it?

That is how I do it. DD the A and DD the B. It works fine. Just pay carefull attention to what drive is connected to what spot on the cable.

Robert - Philips DTivo Series one (Upgraded to 2 HDD via bless tivo).

OK, you probably have an 11 partition A drive, which would give you a bit more flexibility. You can only have three pairs of MFS partitions on the A drive and current models start with two, which can be a problem.

Why two 60Gb drives? Wouldn't a single 120 be preferable?

Exactly the question I asked above... So I assume by your question, the answer is I should go for a single drive :) ?

Cooler, quieter, more reliable, probably slightly cheaper. Don't think it makes much difference to the speed of the TiVo.

Ob LBA-48: This is the last time you can upgrade the A drive without reverting to a backup. If you want more than 120Gb, consider using a large drive as described in the 160Gb thread in the Underground.
