My T60 is dead-- stuck in the almost there loop. It's out of warranty, so I took the drive out and ran the Maxtor PowerMax test. The simple test said to run the extended test. The extended test said the drive was bad. Even so, I went ahead and ran the mfsbackup program (created a 160MB file). It ran to completion, with no error messages. I haven't got a new drive yet, but when I do, will I be wasting my time trying to use this image?

There's no way to tell at this point - if the TiVo doesn't boot then there may be a problem that's carried into the backup. However, getting to 'almost there' means the TiVo software is OK, the problem is with the MFS partition (or possibly a dead modem). In that case the problem may not affect the backup.
