Stuck on kernel replacement

I'm trying to mod my Hughes HDVR2 using the directions on http://www.hostfreedom.com/tivo/. I would like to replace the 40 gig maxtor with a WD 120 gigger. I used a win98 pc.

Anyway, here's what I did in the order that I did them.

I followed the directions as they appeared in the guide right up through the ethernet hack. This included bootpage. At this point I put the drive into the Tivo. It would say "powering up" and then reboot itself.

At this point I went back and restored the image to the 120 gig as per some advice I got in another thread. I was worried that doing this wouldn't erase whatever mistake that I had made but received advice in another thread that it would. I did the restore and put it in the Tivo. Sure enough, it booted. I then went ahead with the next step (kernel replacement) and then put it back in the Tivo. I stopped there this time and put it back in the unit and booted. Once again, the power up issues.

What can I do now? I appreciate all help - I did hours of research on this one in the hopes of not wasting anyone's time.

Um, do you just want to exchange the drive, or do you want to add in some sofware hacks? The drive exchange can easily be handled per Hinsdale's instructions and MFS Tools -- you need no new kernel.
