Add Network Adapter to Hughes Series 2
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a Tivo series 2 Directv (Hughes) and I bought a Linksys USB100TX USB network adapter, however it seems that the Tivo unit does not come with the USB enabled for a network card. Has anyone found a work around for this?
Thanks,
-John

I'm interested in this as well. I checked around and found that some people say the USB ports are disabled and others say that there IS a driver enabled but it's only for a "Pegasus.o" USB adapter.
Can anyone clear this up? I'm a complete newbie to hacking the DirecTivo series 2 (or any for that matter)
I would like to get networking up and running because I have no land line in my new house. I really DON'T want to open the case up and pull the drive out. I'm a windows guy, not a Linux guy - so most of the FAQs I've read might as well have been written in Chinese.
Any help? Is it possible on a Series 2 DirecTivo machine to get USB ethernet running without cracking the case open?
Thanks!
Paul

I just had a DireTivo Series 2 installed Friday. While speaking with the Tech.. He advised that ALL the TIVO information is downloaded Via the Dish. The only reason why they have a Phone line is for Ordering PPV movies from DTV.
He could be wrong...But, my unit does not phone home

Hmm that's good to know. Before my T-60 died I hand't used it in about a year - when I booted it up it told me I couldn't use it until it had made it's service call. Glad to hear the Series 2 don't require this.
I guess the other reason for wanting network capability is to access the Tivo features via the web. But that would just be a fun option, it's not a necessity right now.
