Hiya,
I ordered a 120GB western digital drive a couple weeks ago, and am ready to open my tivo and upgrade. I can't do either. The case just is on too tight. I have removed all screws on the casing and even had another man try to help, bu we just cant get the dang thing open! Any suggestions would be appreciated!
It's a refurbished HDR31202.
Thanks!

Turn the TiVo over with the back facing towards you. You'll find the front bezel is slightly loose. You can therefore slide a screwdriver or similar between the front bezel and the side of the case. With this you can pull back on the screwdrive and push forwards on the TiVo chassis.
You only need to move the case about 1mm. Do this on both sides.
Now the case has moved a little you can get the screwdriver into the gap between the cover flange and the back of the case. Twist the screwdrive so that the angle of the flange is pushed backwards (if you twist the other way the flange will just bend.
You can now move the cover back a few mm at a time (you want to do both sides so that it doesn't twist) and eventually it'll pop free.
Once you've moved it enough to get the screwdriver in, it's easy, but that first movement can be very difficult.
When you put it back, I suggest you don't close the case right up - leave that last millimetre so you can get back in without too much trouble.
I can't imagine what the case bolts are there for, though!

It is the hardest part of the upgrade process isn't it.
A couple of other suggestions is to wear a pair of rubber gloves and pull the lid back and twist side by side. It is difficult to explain but after doing many hdd changes I have found a working technique without threatening TiVo with a screwdriver...
