Rod Roddy, longtime announcer on The Price is Right, Press Your Luck, and Soap, passed on today of colon cancer. Very sad. :(

Let's hope that the last words he heard weren't: Rod Roddy... Come on down!

There's a song by Keller Williams called Bob Rules, in which he has a a dream about being on the Price is Right, in which the chorus goes....
"and then a voice of an angel that belonged to Rod Roddy called my name and said 'come on down your the next contestant'......"
lets hope Roddy's voice carries on in peoples dreams.

Man, I'm gettin' old. I still see Roddy as the new guy. I haven't gotten over Johnny Olsen.

I thought it still was Johhny Olsen. Of course, I haven't watched TPIR since the 70s when it was on Saturday nights before Emergency!

Has anyone heard "Come On Down," a DJ mix featuring Crystal Waters?

Wonder who they'll scramble to replace him with? Does the get taped and broadcast the same day or do they tape a bunch of shows on one day and play them through the week? I always assumed that it was an every day kind of thing.

Rod hasn't been doing the show this season. They've had Burton [Richardson] or someone else doing it.

I think game shows generally tape a week's worth of airings in one day. If price is right is still an hour long, it may be different.

Guys, don't duck the issue. Roddy had both colon AND breast cancer. Rare, but guys can get breast cancer, too. So take care of yourselves.
What a fun guy. He'll be missed.

CNN said that he taped his last show 2 months ago, so I'm sure they'll have time to figure it out. I bet they've been thinking about it, because he has been suffering from cancer for a while.
Wow. Not that I'm the kind of person who aspires to embarrass herself on national tv, but now that Rod's gone, there really is no way I'd ever want to be on the price is right. It just wouldn't be the same with someone else calling me down...

I haven't watched in a while, but can still remember Rod saying 'come on down' he'll be missed. I'm sure the show won't be the same without him.

When it's in session (since they do summer and holiday reruns), "The Price Is Right" tapes five shows in four days...two on Monday, then one each on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I think they try to keep at least a month ahead, but there have been times when it's taped as little as one week in advance.
The most frequent fill-in for Rod Roddy while he was sick was an announcer named Randy West, and I would not be surprised if he were named permanent announcer.
By the way, big game show fans' favorite Rod Roddy memory is probably the "looking for contestants" announcement he delivered on the last episode of a short-lived game show in the early '80s: "If you'd like to be a contestant on 'Hit Man'...forget it!"
