tivo doing bizarre things

I have a Sony DirecTivo that I bought about a year and half ago. Anyway, I upgraded it to 200 hours and all has been grande in Tivoland. However, just yesterday, I noticed it doing some bizarre things. I would be watching a show and it would just lock up kind of like if you hit the pause button, and then a minute or so later, it would go back to normal as if you would hit the skip to live button. It did this several times in a row and then finally quit doing it. Then this morning I get up to find that it's showing a screen which says it could not acquire information from the satellite. I restarted the system and all was fine. Is this any sign that maybe my hard drive is going to go bad at some point? If so, I'd rather buy another hard drive and replace it before that happens. I assume I could just change out the hard drive again couldn't I?

Not sure about the acquiring sat thing, but the stuttering certainly sounds disk-related.

Why is everyone so non-specific about what they've done to their TiVoes? I'll hazard a blind guess that you've now got a two-drive TiVo?

If so you need to identify which drive is failing, which is not going to be easy at this point. The drive's manufacturer (out of guesses on that one) will have a diagnostic you can use. Try DiskSpeed32 if that doesn't work.

No, it's actually a one drive machine. I bought a huge drive from tivoupgrade.com and put it in place of the A drive that was in there. I don't remember too many specifics about the upgrade without pulling my box out of the closet that has the old drive in it since that was nearly two years ago.

You haven't just taken the 3.1.0b software upgrade, have you? That would break the kernel patching.

I'd contact Lou and ask him what he recommends.

I'm not sure, I wasn't aware they had an upgrade recently. I haven't been on this forum for a while. I'll check that out when I get home though and see what version it's running now.

I had several similar lockups on the local channels on these same days...along with others. I believe Directv was having problems. Mine lockups on live tv all went away after yesterday.

That's exactly what it was - on my local channels only - specifically 41. I just assumed it was a Tivo problem, never thinking that it could have been a DTV problem. Glad to hear that! Thanks.
