Well, a nice twist. Reassemble the original build and design team and take another crack at a hearse project. Only, this time they suceeded.

But, there are some loose ends. Right away, before the design team arrives, they are $3,300 in the hole, and it gets dug deeper. But, there was no mention of that.

Then, there was the $1,000 bet as to who was the better welder. Who paid up?

Don't forget. Technically they didn't finish. THey were suppose attach that thing in the front to push the dirt. If you look at the final product, the thing is gone. So how did they cover the grave up with dirt huh?

The plow was attached to the front of the car, however, seeing how the plow hit the dirt when bouncing up and down, it probably broke off.

It didn't seem successful to me. I don't want something like that putting my coffin half in the ground and half out.

Crap--I thought it was just a rerun of the original episode. I hope it's still on the Tivo...

What I also don't get was didn't they get 2 freebies? They got the wheels, and then they got the new engine, when they couldn't make the old one work...

So they get 2 freebies and are close to the budget in the hole, and it is a success???

That sounds like two to me.

Actually lets see: Wheels, Tires, Engine, Carb, Coil, Starter, Crome Covers, Distributer, etc...

yeah, they got two freebies. I didn't get the comment, when they broke open the new engine, that the producers owed them a freebie, when we clearly saw the freebie logo flash when the wheels rolled in. The rules on this show are never very strict. They have gone over budget in the past and it was considered a success (hot air balloon car).

Well, I had commented on this episode but apparently the forum gods felt my post inadequate, because it seems to have not gone through. Ah, well.

Yeah, this was another really stupid episode in my opinion. They started the episode off by describing what laughably could be called rules on this show - $5000 budget and one freebie. Then, they announced that the team was already $3300 in the hole. Uh, ok. They continued to buy stuff with the total lack of budget that they had, and ended up around $4200 in the hole. They got their one freebie right off the bat - a stupid freebie in the form of new tires and rims. Then, apparently the producers hoped the viewers were dumb as a box of rocks and brought out another freebie, a brand new engine.

Now, I can kind of understand them getting two freebies... the car was in miserable shape. The brake shoes were fused almost solid and the original engine was a total writeoff. Had they made a point of saying that because this second hearse was dead itself, they were going to help out the team and give them an extra freebie, I'd be cool with it. But they didn't - all they said was that the producers owed them one. Uh, ok.

Then - the distractions. Please. Most times, the distractions on this show are either self-imposed, or they work into the storyline. With this episode, they brought a guy with a monkey and a marching band. Neither distraction added a single thing to the episode. Additionally, the total incongruity of seeing a marching band "randomly" wandering through the garage made the show seem more like a Monty Python sketch... "And now, for something completely different."

Despite all that, the finished hearse (which, by the way, also broke the rule that the vehicle had to look stock when completed - a rule I'm pretty sure they're never going to follow) was still pretty cool, to see the hydraulic backhoe being powered from the car engine. I would've liked to have seen a plow that raised and lowered or one that folded out, rather than one that just was bolted onto the front.
