What did everyone think?
I thought the first episode was a bit crazy, but I thought there were some really funny parts.
I am a biased Norm fan, but in any case this show was much better than his first sitcom.

It had a few laughs - not too bad for a Norm McDonald show.

I tuned in for two reasons:
Norm MacDonald - always funny
Penelope Ann Miller - always very easy on the eyes, though I had not seen her in a few years
Happy to say, I was satisified on both counts (especially the second!).

Being an East Coast guy, I thought the humor was too "midwest small town" for my taste. The butler part was funny, but overall, I was VERY disappointed. I cancelled my sp.

I did not like this at all. Norm as a warm down to earth fireside chat type of character? Does not work. Norm should never be warm, he should always be scathing.
I have no idea how this show got picked up based on the pilot. Hopefully they revamped and it will be better. I will give it one or two looks, then make a decision.
I've said before and I will say it again. Why am I watching this instead of Undeclared, Andy Richter, or Greg the Bunny?

Undeclared and Andy Richter were funny, actually they were CLASSICLY funny compared to this show. Never watched Greg the Bunny, which didn't interest me

I usually can't stand Norm "Smile at my own jokes" MacDonald, but I really loved this show. The other characters look like they will have a rich palette with which to paint a good show if they do it right. I found myself laughing out loud more than a few times. At everything but the one joke they kept showing on the TV spots every 20 minutes.
Anyone feel this is a little too close to Newhart, though? The one normal guy in the motel in Vermont with all the nuts?

Maybe that's why I didn't like this show. I never was into Newhart's type of understated humor.

It's actually from the same creative folks as Newhart: Phoeff Sutton, or something like that. I think the show could grow on me, but Fred Willard has to tone it down just a little ...

This show was co-created by Barry Kemp, who also co-created Newhart.
They might as well call it Newhart 2. The show revolves around a city guy with a bit of celebrity who moves to a small town to get away from big city craziness. Instead of finding simplicity, the guy just finds small town nutcases who are just as irritating as the urban ones.
Bob Newhart was the perfect choice as straight-man for the weirdos. We'll see if Norm is up to the task. I give the pilot a  , but I hope Norm's take on this set-up has more bite to it from now on.
